Francis Forever might be about remembering someone you miss, the part about Mitski writing the song at 3AM references about her writing about that someone. on the days the Singer goes out walking, are the times the singer gets reminiscent about that someone. as the song goes on, Mitski eventually realizes her love for that person cannot go on anymore. (or in simple words, mitski just stops getting attached to the person in that song)
