Little Talks Lyrics

(Hey!)
(Hey!)
(Hey!)
I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand I'll walk with you my dear
The stairs creak as you sleep it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes
Somedays I can't even...

Hey MustacheFace here- I think that they are boyfriend and girlfriend and the guy says "Come on its just a haunted house" and she doesnt want to go in. (NOTE ITS HALLOWEEN) She finally goes in and she sees a axe murderer and she thinks he is fake but he is real and kills her. He talks to her in his dreams and he longs to join her.

Well, I've always seen it as if it's a young couple who moved into a haunted house. And it shows the girl getting possessed..
She says she doesn't like walking around the old house;he stays with her because she is scared. The stairs creek while they are trying to sleep, he tells her to go to sleep. So she's the one getting haunted while he is ignoring it. She says somedays she can't trust herself, which means she is doing things she cannot control. He realizes something's wrong and hates to see her in that condition. Then, she has the old voice in her head and its holding her back from being herself. She says things will be okay and this will move into the past. And he talks about them being younger and in love. She says she doesn't know if she is wrong or right, the demon is taking her choice away and gaining more power/control. He doesn't want to believe it, and says her mind is playing tricks on her. She tells him to not listen to the things she says, because it's not her. The screams sound the same, once again..the demon took over and she's pointing out that it's not the same person who he was in
Love with. Then the guy is saying that she's gone, he watched her disappear(he saw her life slipping away.) And says that all that's left is as ghost of her. And they are torn apart, there is nothing they can do..she's too far into the possession, and he says just let go and they will meet SOON, he is telling her to give up. Then the beat picks up and he says to wait after she dies, because he kills himself to join her. (now wait wait wait for me, please hang around..I'll see you when I fall asleep.) And since nobody will know the true story of their deaths, "and though the truth may vary" but they will be carried to safety, because they will be together. "this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore." And that's my opinion.

    Alternative meaning-
May likely be about a husband who is an alcoholic- who lives 'in the house' but clearly separate from his wife. Each has all these positive thoughts about their marriage- the wife 'actively' suffering the separation....and meanwhile,....despite ruining their marriage by isolating himself 'in the basement' or 'in the garage' ....the husband is much removed....but still active in the song with his recourse, b/c like many alcoholics....he is still deeply ruminating about the situation... but just can't stop himself from drinking... as his wife feels....'your gone, gone, gone away, I wish you'd just disappear....so does he.....'all that's left is a ghost of you'- This perpetuates his illness as he builds remorse....and inevitably- each has the same thought...for different reasons- the husband- who still loves her deeply but just wants to be 'in his disease' wants her to love him enough to leave him be....and the wife...who has clarity in her love- really means it....

Together- they survive under the same roof- 'the ship' that will carry them both till the end of their marriage/ or life, whichever comes first- is the 'foundation'....and neither will leave it- out of loyalty to the reason they first wed.... no matter what- they won't get divorced.
I think this song is sad on the surface of it, but uplifting for those who value 'loyalty' high on their list. Not a common value these days- and this song seems to 'trumpet' this value- no matter what the interpretation- death, divorce, etc.- people who are true to each other....and that is sadly a lost art....

my work ties involve the mentally ill- and as much as I'd love a song to bring attention to their plight- this song to ME at least screams of as previously mentioned- a husband who has died- and is speaking to his wife from beyond-- the one thing they have 'remaining' in common on earth- is the house they inhabit- he still does from beyond, and she- from the living. I take the whole- 'don't listen to a word I say' as her apologizing for her likely cursing of him for leaving her alone on earth- likely with their kids, in my mind ( as it would be in my own particular situation.... but all along still loving and missing each other. Profound, and deep tune- judging by the varied interpretations. And that is what 'art' should be afteralll.....but my take is- dad gone- wife surviving....

I believe this song is about a woman trying to cope with the death of her parter/husband. She cannot forget all the special times they had together and misses their little talks. In the song he talks to her and she tells him of how she is so lonely without him. He tells her that she needs to forget about him and move on so she can be happy in life but she can't. Some days are so hard for her that simple tasks become memories of what used to be and its tearing her apart. They remember what it used to be like when they were together and he tells her they will be together soon in which he means when she passes they will be together and she wants him to wait for her wherever he is. This song has very meaningful lyrics and reminds me of my grandparents. It touched me in many ways and I hope this helps anyone with understanding the meaning.

    From a mag:

Speaking with Interview Magazine, Hilmarsdóttir explained the song's meaning: "How we usually make our lyrics is, Raggi and I, sometimes we come up with stories or situations. That one is about a relationship. Sometimes we haven't wanted to give too much away. We like people to read their own things in the lyrics. I guess I could share it. It's about a couple and the husband passed away and it's from the conversation between the two of them. We don't know if she's going crazy or if someone's actually there. We've kind of been inspired by people that lived in my house. This old couple that lived there for 30 years. The woman passed away, so it was kind of different."

I also believe the man passed away. She is trying to deal with the pain of losing him. Beautiful song just recently heard it but truly touched my heart <3

I think it is definitely alzheimer's disease, which can as it progresses make individuals very mean and not like themselves, the lyrics are going back and forth between the couple, and he just keeps reminded that this ship (their bodies) that are probably beginning to fail at this point, will get them to heaven, or eternity, like said above. The suffering families go through with alzheimers and other mental health disorders can be extremely difficult, but alzheimers especially because it just keeps progressing and it really changes who the people are, think of a man and woman who have spent sixty years together, like my grandparents, and known nothing but thmeselves with the other, and known each other inside out, and then the one starts loosing their mind, at times doesn't even known who their loved on is, lashes out, calls them bad names, "while he says the screams all sound the same" like it is okay honey, I don't pay attention, all the screams sound the same" This song breaks my heart, but at the same times gives me hope and reminds me of the strength of true love! And wow that was a way long post!

I think the song is about a couple. The girl is scared, and doubting herself and her boyfriend, and the guy is telling her that he misses their little talks and he'll hold her hand when she's scared.

I see exactly my father and my mother-in-law story in that song. My father passed away 4 years ago. They were really happy together, nothing else matter. When we died, she was alone, missing him. She talks about him exactly like in the song. She missed talking to him, hearing him laugh...

The ghost of him can be many things, memories, things in the house or even joy. The shore, for me, is reunion in death.

And they lived in a old, big house... And the stairs creaks a lot!

The song is about the husband who has passed away, and the wife is trying to deal with losing her love. I read a quote from the band directly. They did say that they want people to interpret the song differently and personally. But it is a conversation between a wife and her deceased husband, whether she is going crazy or it is a real conversation is unknown. This song hit me so hard, it really has a lot of meaning to it and I think it captures the despair of losing a loved one very well.

i think its about two people who still love each other, but cant be together. She left him, but later saw things differently, and still has the love. He had to move on, carrying the love in his heart, but now cant return to her, so all that's left for either of them is to see each other in their dreams.
