Alligator Sky Lyrics

Adam Young:
Where was I when the rockets came to life
And carried you away into the alligator sky?
Even though I'll never know what's up ahead
I'm never lettin' go, I'm never lettin' go

Shawn Chrystopher:
Uh uh, that's not a plane, that's...

A house on the cloud and God's my landlord
And for my rent all I pay is my drive, I got that
So if you need me you can find me in the alligator sky

I think that everything we need to know is right here. I think this a song about heaven and coming to Christ (remember Adam's Christian) and the Alligator sky represents the heavens.

I personally think he's getting the alligator from Lewis Carrol's poem about crocodiles.

    How doth the little crocodile
    Improve his shining tail
And wash the waters of the Nile
    On every golden scale?

This is all speculation of course though.

Its quite a happy/feel good song :) many fun lyrics. Overall I think its a "Just Go For It!!!" kind of song. Like to never give up, be optimistic and throw caution to the wind!! "Never let go" as Adam put it :)

The song, I think, is about opportunity and using imagination to get there. I think Adam is basically saying ideas and creativity are endless--a "sky is the limit" thing. When he says "Where was I when the rockets came to life and carried you away into the alligator sky?" I think he may have lost someone to fame or to a promotion, etc--lost someone to opportunity's clutches.

This song is basically saying the sky's the limit. That's a cliche saying but I think Adam and Shawn took it a step further. The song is telling us to reach for the stars and let our imagination grow. It's another perfect example of Adam Young's dreamy and optimistic lyrics
