I believe that this song is about these 2 people going through a rough patch in their relationship. they're both singing about how they're trying too hard on their relationship, but they both need their space. they need air, they're suffocating in each other and maybe they need to take a break.

This is a long story behind this song. But what happened was Shawn and I thought we would last forever until one day we got into a fight, we were basically stressing each other out and we were already stressed out enough. But then he was trying to put his opinion in and I didn’t want to hear it. So after the fight he needed to release some stress and wrote this song.
