Slipknot: Scissors Meaning
Scissors Lyrics
Before I cut my heart open...and let the air out
Three bugs, a pound of dust
Some wind spilled before me
In the strangest manner that had
Broke away my tear spout
AS I LIE THERE
WITH MY TONGUE SPREAD...

#1 top rated interpretation:"I play doctor for five minutes flat"
playing doctor does not only suggest physical self harm by cutting oneself, but is also an implication for having sex or using syringes and various drugs on yourself.
The five minutes indicate short time not enough to get fun out of the play.
"Before I cut my heart open and let the air out"
After the short time of play the heart is cut open, that means that if the organ heart is symbolising the vessel of emotions he did cut it to see what's inside the air that comes out suggests either the emptiness either the soul/life coming out of the vessel.
"Three bugs a pound of dust some wind spilled before me in the strangest manner that had broke away my tear spout"
There is not much found within. The realization of the emptiness brings him to great sadness/tears etc.
"As I lye there with my tongue spread wide open a black widow had offered me a sweetheart tube"
He is in stillness and I think he means he cannot speak, the black widow symbolizes an evil woman or poison she offers him a a sweetheart tube a vessel that he loves.
"As I injected the candied heart that I had selected she said don't hesitate just do what you have to do to me" as he opens the tube and injects the poison that he loves within him "the candied heart" she encourages him to do something to her no idea what. Maybe the drug is the black widow spider maybe a woman maybe both.
"It's hard to stay between the lines of skin
don't mean that I can feel"
Here he refers to self harming (and yes guys Idk why is that, but while you do self harm like cutting scratching burning biting pulling hair etc. it doesn't hurt but you must be in a "horrible mood" to do it) he's peeling of the skin he can't feel he is completely numb.
"I wasn't very much fun to be with anyway just let the blood run red because I can't feel"
We've come to the point nobody wants me needs me I feel empty and numb so let's take off on myself physically.
"Biding my time until the time is right"
Suicidal thoughts (there is a far away distance between self harm and suicide), he is preparing to commit it that's what I guess.
"Someone inside me"
Something within him he finds not his own self detecting it as foreign
"Everyone against me, everyone beside me"
He feels surrounded and incapable to escape from what's forth and back
"Inside the faces that I hide from you I want to see you standing before me"
A part of himself that is not surfacing wants someone or something before him
"You are the only one that I would rather see standing before me"
And it is the only thing he really wants
"you want it, you need it don't lie" I don't know if to other person or telling himself grant your own desire do not pretend you don't want it
"I don't need you anymore I'd rather die I want to die"
Complete emotional breakdown and inner fight because he'd rather die then take what he wants but he wants it that badly he wants to die does not need it that is a scream for self awareness
Screams incomprehensibly the rest cries, laughs, coughs chokes in screaming and throws up. You get the mixed up frustrated emotions when you listen it I guess complete breakdown.
So my theory is is about a woman or drugs or a woman and drugs, that had broke him down as a whole and he's been left empty and with only one desire. -

#2 top rated interpretation:Ok first of all.......I need clear 1 thing up here .
Darkangel_x interpretation of this is complete bullshit . He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about . Joey wrote this song yes but he's not a gay emo fag . And the band murderdolls is a gothic band, not emo, so please, slipknot fans , rate his interpretation awful.
The song is about some1 peeling the skin of their arm and causing harm to themselves . But it is also about corey taylors ( the singers ) former drug and alcohol addiction . The lines "you want it , you need it " are talking about drugs. It's an extremely emotional and disturbing song . -

#3 top rated interpretation:If you want to want the real interpretation you'll have to ask Anders Colsefini, the vocalist from Slipknot's very first demo album "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat" which this song was first featured on under the name "A heartache and a pair of scissors". I personally think it's about drug addiction, a failed relationship and self harm/ suicide.
-
I personally think the song is from the perspective of a young boy who has been sexually abused by a woman, possibly his babysitter or even his mother. The lyrics sound very juvenile at times, and is between vocals Corey is crying/moaning.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

its about a person who is a drug addict who cuts him self up like the lyrics biding my time until the time is right is talking about the build up to the suicide. there is a lot of meaning to every thing he says in this song about emptiness and no one cares about him. but in the end of the song he is just sitting there in his own blood crying and screaming for his life to end.
-
This might be old, but Lambofgodfan's interpretation is off. Corey Taylor didn't kick his habits until the post-Iowa era i.e. prior to Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses, meaning that it has no linkage to him whatsoever. Most of the members (all but I believe 2 (the other (2?) still drank and did drugs, but not as much as the other members)) had issues with drugs and drinking at this point, meaning there are no physical ties to the band's life.

This song was made by drummer Joey Jordison, but I'm not sure if the lyrics were created by Corey or Joey.
Anyways, this song describes a character of some sort who is peeling away his skin and opening his heart only to find a pound of dust and three bugs in it.
I believe the song is metaphorically about drugs/ alcohol. The alcohol has numbed out his feelings for himself and others, his emotions have been warn down and he is know realising how bad the addiction has become and what its doing to his life.
He is now convinced that his life was never fulfilling and was always empty EX: can't get emotionally etched or close to anyone. this is suggested through lyrics like Don't lie, i had no heart, id rather die.... I WANNA DIE. -
I think the song is about cutting and other self-injurious behavior... "its hard to stay between the lines of skin. Just cause I have nerves don't mean that I can feel....Just let the blood run res cause i cant feel",
Getting addicted to the pain "you want it. You need it" "one more. Two more"
Self hatred "you burn. You purge."
And considering suicide "I wasn't very much fun to be with anyway", "biding my time until the time is right...it's time" "I wanna die. I'd rather die"
And I think the laughing and screaming is the pain mixed with the high you get from self-injuring. -

This song says a lot about drug addiction to me, if you've ever read "The Heroin Diaries" by Nikki Sixx are you have an even closer relationship with drug addictions a lot of it makes perfect sense.

Number 1, drummer Joey Jordison wrote the lyrics to the song Scissors. It seems as if the song is about a person peeling away his skin and cutting open his own body. Scissors is probably the most emotion-filled song anyone's ever heard. Some compare the end of the Slipknot CD to the end of KoRn's Daddy, because both vocalists go off completely. However, Jonathan Davis' whimpers are absolutely dogshit compared to Corey Taylor's screams of agony. Close to the end of the song, there is a lot of dispute of what is happening with there is coughing, laughing and so on. In my point of view, I think there are all watching some sort of porno with some woman eating shit. The coughing is actually Chris Fehn, because he is about to puke while watching the video.
-Corey Taylor -
this song is about a mentally disturbed person cutting their skin open and inflicting pain on themself. he lays in his bed waiting to die from the injuries inflicted onto him by himself
-
The Scissors song is really hard to interpret well most of the metal songs are hard to interpret due to their cryptic nature anyway Ill give it a shot. The person (Corey) in this song seems to be suffering from dementia and Hence is locked in some psychiatric ward somewhere throughout the song He is trying to justify his past actions probably he murdered someone brutally in the past and he is giving reasons for his actions and He holds society responsible for everything. He keeps hearing Voices inside his head(she said don't hesitate just do what you have to do) which appear to be guiding him. In the end of the song it seems that He is desperately trying to escape from his captivity and waiting for the right moment to do so.

Scissors was Written by Joey ( The Drummer ) and is such a Spiritual Song. It was written about a fictional character peeling his skin because he was so fustrated. This song is actually compared to the end of KoRn's Daddy when Jonothan Loses it and starts crying. This song is the most spiritual song that Slipknot Has Ever written.
