Taylor Swift: I Knew You Were Trouble Meaning
Song Released: 2012
I Knew You Were Trouble Lyrics
I was in your sights, you got me alone
You found me, you found me, you found me…
I guess you didn't care and I guess I liked that
And when I fell hard, you took a step back
Without me, without me, without...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think alot of girls can relate to this song. it's hard because you know you shouldn't be with a certain person and you do it anyways. it's like we always want the ones who treat us bad for some reason, at least that's how i feel sometimes! it's good to know that there's someone who i can relate to. that's why i love Taylor!

#2 top rated interpretation:I agree with all the other meanings. It's about being attracted and going for someone you know is kind of an ass but you don't care because you're emotionally attracted to them. When they do something to hurt you, you blame it on yourself. In the end you begin to change yourself to satisfy this person, although it never does (the reason why in the music video the guy starts kissing on other girls, it's because he has found something in them that was new and that she didn't possess.) it's a very sad song about being used and treated horribly without realizing it.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:This song was about her, falling for a guy who was trouble and getting hurt in the end. She saw all the warnings and red flags when she met him, but she disregarded that and went for it anyways. At the end, she realizes what she didn't want to believe and she regrets it. I agree with a previous anon, most girls could relate to this.

I happen to know for a fact that she wrote this song for my man Harry Styles from One Direction. It's my favorite song by her and I'm a really good singer. I hope I could meet her and Harry. I'm a huge fan.
-
I think this song is about trusting a man she loved and he let her down in a rude and disrespectful way. I truely think this is about Jhon Mayor and not Harry Styles because after this song came out before they even started dating. So yeah, thats what i think

This song isn't about Harry Styles(The song "Styles" is about Harry Styles) last thing I checked. This song is all about John Mayer and I know this because not only the lyrics fit perfect with the description of John Mayer, the video shows the leather jacket, shows the tattoos all over his arms, and shows how much of a bad ass that he is(BBA: Bad Boy Act). The video clearly shows how he left Taylor Swift to suffer and clearly he wasn't meant for her because he's a fuck boy that just wants to be in a relationship and not actually be in love with her. And the fact that Taylor and Katy have beef between each other and John went ahead and dated Katy for no good reason other than to tick her off even more. She clearly states in the lyrics that he never loved "me"(Taylor) or "her"(Katy) or anyone or anything.

It's is about fucking harry styles.
-
I still don't understand the 'A new notch on your belt, is all I'll ever be' part.
-
It's about a how she was in a relationship and how you should be careful when falling in love.
-
I think it's just talking about relationships (I know, duh) and how you should be careful when falling in love. It's saying falling in love is dangerous and you should get to know the person better before you get too far into it. I think it's kind of like a warning.
-
This song is about how a girl regrets her relationship. She describes it as a story though. She says she knew from day one they wouldnt work out. She still decided to try it. She puts all the blame on herself and hates it. She basically says that he doesnt love anyone and hes just a player, she says he doesnt care either. She hates everything she did with him, she hates him too, she wishes everything could go back to the day they met, and she would say no.
-
Firstly this is about John Mayer the album came out before she even dated Harry Styles and I could list every other reason it's not about him but that'd be boring, it's not about Harry so get over it. Basically the song is about falling for someone you know you're not right for and know they're bad or dangerous or has a reputation so you should know better.

This song has to be about Harry. The way she talks about him at the start of her video is heartbreaking because he seems like such a polite, decent guy, so maybe she just misinterpreted what he wanted in a relationship. The man in the video mildly resembles Harry with his dark hair, perfect smile, many tattoos and a love of hats. One of his tattoos was a ship on his arm and shortly after the video,Taylor accompanied Hary to get an identical tattoo in the exact same place and everything. The couple had a short fling that was never serious and they certainly weren't exclusive but Taylor still got super cut when Harry kissed Emily Ostilly (I think that's her name) in New Zealand and so Taylor called it off. I'm not entirely sure why they got back together for a couple of months but it still didn't last. What is a shame is that Harry only ever had kind things to say about Taylor whereas Taylor was extremely spiteful when she called out Harry at the VMAs. She won a moon man for IKYWT and she said that she wanted to thank the guy who inspired the song and that he knew exactly who he was, because now she has an award for it. The camera then zoomed to Harry in the audience and he staring up at the ceiling chewing his gum vigorously and you can see Paul behind him rolling his eyes at Swifts immaturity. Also when the boys were presenting an award Swift is seen saying what appears to say "shut the fuck up" while one of the lads is speaking. Taylor also said that it wasn't hard to perform a song with passion when the guy who it's about is sitting right there in the audience. This was after a performance where Harry was indeed seated in the audience. When she says in the song "when I fell hard, you took a step back" it's not surprising that Harry backed off when she fell hard after only dating for a couple of months. That's one of the easiest ways to scare off a 19 year old boy. And then she sings about how he never loved her? Well what does she expect after only dating a few months? Did she want him to get down on one knee? Harry has said himself he's not interested in settling down yet and fair enough! He's 19 and has his whole career in front of him. He has tours to go on and albums to record. And Swift is right he probably hasn't loved any of the girls he's been with, but he is teenager and he probably isn't a hopeless romantic like Swift is. So yeah I like the song but the meaning is bullshit and this girl needs to pull her head out of her arse and start writing some new material that's not about two month long 'relationships'

This song is about how she first sees this guy,and all she sees is an angel. So as time passes, she starts to think that she is actually falling in love with that dude...only to find out that in the end he cheats on her and breaks her heart...and now she realises that he is trouble, and he always will be. And because she thought she was in love,it hurt her even more that she was fooled by that smile and those looks. And now she is alone in the end...
-
John Mayer, he's dating her BFF Katy Perry. It's obvious, in one part she says: "That you never loved me or her or anyone or anything!"
So it has to be about John! -
This song is about Harry Styles. Taylor and Harry sorta dated once quietly prior to this last time many of you are referencing. Harry told Taylor he kissed a model or somebody but not to worry and that it was all for publicity... The photos reached Taylor and she knew he was lying... She broke it off with him. They later rekindled their romance which became very public... As did their breakup.
This song is NOT about John Mayer. Dear John is about John Mayer (even though Tay herself said it wasn't -but don't forget she doesn't come out and tell us this stuff people.... She refuses to and has told us this!) if you listen to the lyrics of Dear John and I Knew You Were Trouble - it's clear they are about different people.... Clearly at two very different times in Taylor's life as well.
