As she writes songs late at night the tears wont stop, even when she's playing guitar he's on her mind thats why she says that "he's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar" knowing she might of missed her final chance to let him know exactly how she feels about him. She fakes smiles around him because it's difficult to be around him when she's hurting so much.

He goes to Taylor for advice, and Taylor would smile and is happy for him. Deep down, she is feeling hurt, especially when he talks about how special the girl is. Though Taylor didn't confess her true feelings for him and didn't get the guy she wants, but she hopes the girl can see she's lucky to have him.

It's about a crush she had a guy called Drew who was crushing/going out on another girl (he might have also been the inspration for "Invisable" as well). Whenever he started talking about her she would say "Oh I'm so happy for you" and never mean any of it. When the single was released Drew knew it was about him. He called her but she never answerd. then he came to meet her at her hoyuse as she was leaving to go to a Nashville Predators hockey game. He asked her if "Teardrops On My Guitar" was about him. She said yes. Taylor said it would have been poetic if he approached her upon the album's release and she would have accepted, but that she had already moved on.

I think that some of you are spot-on with your interpretations. I do concur with those who have said that this song is about falling in love with your best friend and not expressing it soon enough. I admire her courage to come out and write a song about it, knowing that he probably knows now that it was for him. Her songs are inspirational and motivating especially when many of us can identify with them. Falling for your best friend was hard for her and she sang about it. Is there anything she can't do?
