I always interpret this song as a couple who've been friends for a long time. They've been going through a rough patch and are reminiscing. She feels like he's changed, that's the other heart calling from her perspective. He wants to remind her that there are good times and to get through it, that's the other heart in his eyes.
They're fighting for the relationship and whether or not it will last. She thinks he wants to leave because she fees he's been distant, he's trying to to tell her he's there and wants to stay.
