He speaks of it in interviews. He's taking a critical, perhaps satirical, look at his younger self. How incredibly brazen and naive but also full of flair, false confidence and bravado.
I just think its cool that he's able to reflect and critique his early-20's while only in being in his mid-30's.
It takes a lot of bands a Rock-and-roll Hall of Fame induction to admit this.
