It is a fairly obvious explanation, but it is a story about a man who once lived a well and sustainable life, who became pressured and stressed by his work, social life, and marriage. This led him to turn to drinking and develop an addictive relationship with alcohol. He ended up cheating on his wife and loosing all of his money to addiction to the point where he was left with nothing except for being a slave to the demon alcohol.
