The Abyss Lyrics

I can feel the energy
That changes in my chemistry
The atmosphere, the way I breathe
My automatic cashing me
To close my eyes and wander in
And wait until the madness ends
Lost communication with the world outside
I fall into my own, into...

I think, examining the lyrics on the surface, the opening verses describe someone at a gathering or around other people that are in a state of "madness" or don't understand them. The narrator "closes their eyes and [wanders] in," meaning The Abyss must be in their head. This is a song about someone who gets lost in their own endless (and possibly dissociated) thoughts, and uses it as an escape. Whether it's drug induced or caused by a mental illness, I can't say, but it's just a song about someone letting their own thoughts consume them rather than living in the moment.

Chemical change from drug addiction that is prrmanent. Someone having to accept life will never be the same this time.

I think this song is about someone who’s life has been nothing but hurt, being beat down on, and told they’re worthless. Either that or someone who met another person like that. Said person can’t find happiness.

To begin with, let me just say the Amazon's version of this songs lyrics are straight up wrong, if you want the songs actual lyrics, look it up and get googles opinion. Nevertheless, here we go. In my opinion, this song deals with mental disorder, and the idea that mental disorders are negative reinforcement cycles. This is made apparent when Matt Walst sings "I wanna go back into the abyss". The Abyss itself is perhaps the negative thoughts that such a mental disorder could bring upon. The song talks about going into the abyss obviously, but because Walst says he wants to go back into the abyss, this shows that there's almost solace to be found in the negative thought processes which the disorder brings about.
