From Yesterday Lyrics

He's a stranger to some
And a vision to none
He can never get enough,
Get enough of the one

For a fortune he'd quit
But it's hard to admit
How it ends and begins
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
On his face is a...

is about Jesus!! From yesterday, it's coming! From yesterday, it calls him.
    For a fortune he'd quit
    But it's hard to admit.
they talk about jesus but in a bad way..

I think it's about a guy who thinks about his past.
He experienced or rather did something that is still haunting him.
I believe that with "On his face is a map of the world" is meant that he tries to find a way out of his situation.

I think the song means it's about how he is alone and is just a loner:
'He's a stranger to some and a vision to none'
And maybe he just sees how horrible his life is too.

This song to me is about a man in power who is unjust("Through the blood he cannot see the lives that he took"), and rules like a dictator ("From the council of one"). He is greedy, ("For a fortune, he would quit") and he is not the only one of his kind, for there are many harsh rulers and governments just like him, ("on his face is a map of the world"), or he is "representing" the evil in the world. History repeats himself, and history is warning him that this way of running things has never worked, "But he doesn't want to read the message".

I think that this song has something to do with soldiers. "His face is a map of the world" Reminds me of how on his face it shows his battle scars form over seas and all. Anywho i think it has something to so with the war and soldiers.

He is an ex-soldier that is tormented by his past memories of murdur. His face bears many scars from the many battles he had fought (On his face is a map of the world). He [probably] wants redemption for his sins but not now (He Doesn't Want to Read The Message Here)

Like they say he's a stranger to some..... His face is a map of the world they are talking about Jesus and how even know how we are all different he's still there.and he can show us the way.

I think that from yesterday is (in the short movie) about the young emperor you see in the beginning, who has already had a lot of sorrow and has been raised lonely, because of what he had the become (the emperor).
And though for a fortune he would quit only wanting 1 thing(possibly freedom, or love) His thinking ends as fast as it begins and he can't erase what happened yesterday from his memory.
What he has done (killed people, or commanded to) is his sin, and he sits on a mountain of sins.
He's the one person who decides what happens in the whole country. On his face you see innocence, but deep inside him is only fear. He doesn't want to read the message his heart sends him, because of what he has done yesterday. And now he can't go back or face the truth.
    but that's what I saw.

This is about some some hero and/or "chosen one" that is olbiged to make a very important decision that can save/doom the world but either way it would cost inncoent lives, all his fears and doubdts come trembling down and he would gladly get out of the situation if he could, he finally made his deciscion and doesn't want to know the final of his actions

Its like Robinson Crusoe, he does what he wants regardless of the consequences. He does what he wants and would rather fight the inevitable and change the outcome by sheer fight and will.

We all do it, making the same mistakes yet hoping to change the outcome by fighting our demons hoping to defeat them and change the outcome. b/c we do what we want to do when we want to do it regardless of the consequences.Yet the past is there, "from yesterday" the "message, he doesn't want to hear," and the "fear". It "calls him" but "he doesn't want to read the message.......yet" He's not ready to change his course in life yet. He still thinks he can fight to change the outcome.

i disagree with the political side this song seams to reflect on the band members differently as in all of their song E.G. Jared Leto see's himself and confronts him in the kill why because the lyrics reflect with the visual look and the same goes in this video as each member sort of see's different images...

i agress with the guys saying the lyrics reflect the past they do in most songs they do like the kill and a butifull life.

I have to disagree with the Bush interpretation and the interpretations of others as I believe that it is not such a political song at all.. Political songs are normally very open about the genre and are very straight forward as to be obvious enough to be understood by the listener.. This song has inscription of its message which stands to be more from the writers mind or sense of being, so its a song about ones self..

The lyrics while scattered, are very obvious.. From the day you are born you learn to fear, there is a time and place for every thing, everyone battles with their inner self, the temptations before you, I think this song was written as an expression of ones self to over come fears and the temptations one will face. Everyone has a map (destiny) from the day you are born, so from yesterday its coming, from yesterday the fear, from yesterday its coming, but he doesn't wasn't to read the message hear because its not the time or place and he hasn't over come the fears yet, or prepared for whats to come. Thanks for reading, its just MY point of view :)

An interpretation after seeing the clip is that the song is about how over the many years the music industry doesn't change very much the fans and the shows still work the same way, that why wen they go to step out on stage they go bak in time(or yesterday)

This song is beautiful in its ability to speak volumes. I believe it is a song of empathy, a poem of sadness the writer feels for a "particular entity". This entity so selfishly loved his Father and this love was his undoing. His fate is sealed, the Message is clear yet not fair... yesterday is coming and there is nothing this entity can do about it. Fear of truth is the only fear that is justified.
