   Ok so I took this a little more literally than most people. I think he is saying that war I going to kill us all. As "we will fight to the death" and he's explaining what war is as saying "this is war." not like declaring war.
   The reason y I don't think it is about protesting your beliefs because the music video shows several obvious signs of the illuminate.

   I think this song is about the fight from 30 seconds to mars between their agency. for 30stm this fight was about everything("the moment to live or the moment to die") and so they wanted everybody to fight with them for their right and for the truth.
   the song could be about fighting for your dreams and for that what you believe in, too.

   Jared Leto is issuing a war, but not on anything physical. He's issuing a war on any and all beliefs. He warns everyone, like, "To the leader, the pariah, the victim, the Messiah" that this is war, issueing war against all of them, challenging the identities of all. He's not going down without a fight, "We will fight to the end" and he's exposing a new side of everything, "It's a brave new world" The slate is wiped clean with all of his beliefs at the end "I believe in nothing but the truth in who we are." Maybe that's just me
