The song seems to be about a young man returning to his war ravaged home just to remember what he lost. He lost all those dear to him so he tried to "put them back together again " but he couldn't bring back the dead. Hence his pain and loss. He recalls the attack on his home and bares scars from the attack. He is the sole survivor and he lives on grounds cursed by blood and death. At least that's my reading of it.
