   i think its a song about lost loves in general, like me and this chick met at a show and we fell for each other but i had a woman and she had a man but we wanted to be together but never persued it, and now i wished i had made it different but there is still hope for me.

   Dear God is about someone who is leaving home and people you love for a while, whether it be a music tour or military purposes (the music video shows a music tour as the reason). The song asks for God's help to look over someone he loves "Dear God the only thing I ask of you Is to hold her when I'm not around When I'm much too far away We all need that person who can be true to you But I left her when I found her And now I wish I'd stayed 'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired I'm missing you again, oh no Once again"
