I believe it's more than a commentary of the current woke culture. It's referring to all current modern culture such as social media, where everyone just believes everything they're told at face value. Propaganda from media and governments can get the masses to do or buy anything they want because no one questions anything. The western world is a mass of sheep, and if you dare the have a different opinion or act slightly differently than your expected to, then you face being "cancelled" or counted as something wrong with you. So most people are too scared to speak their own minds.
