Foster the People: Best Friend Meaning

Song Released: 2014

Best Friend Lyrics

(When your best friend's all strung out)
You do everything you can 'cause you're never gonna let it get 'em down
(When you find it all around)
It comes in waves but it's hardest from the start

Feelings sleeping in the field again
But I can...

I think this song is about taking care of a strung out person doing drugs. “When your best friend’s all strung out” is a line backing up taking care of a strung out person. “Premonitions smiling in the dark” seems like a line of doing drugs and hallucinating, wandering into the dark where the smiles are smiling in the dark.

I think this song is about finding out something is wrong with your best friend and they need help. I think it has a very broad meaning that can connect with everyone wether it may be being addicted to drugs, being heartbroken, coming out etc... and I also think he's talking to his best friend through the song saying he's been through all the worst things in his life and that his best friend will get through them too.

Its about realizing that your "best friend " needs help or is in need of some company" when your best friends is all worn out"
