To let love break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much too late
To find ourselves so far apart
I don't know how you're s'posed to find me lately
An what more could you ask from me
How could you say that I...

It is a fact that this song is about Axl's son that drowned in their pool at their mansion.. He found his son in the pool dead and didn't know what to do so he went in complete shock and depression.
"Estranged" was the last song of his first concert after the death and he ran off stage not finishing the entire song.
Axl then tried to commit suicide several times but the memories of his son and his son's place in his heart kept him from going through with the suicide..
It was on the Interview with Axl Rose right after this song was released

1. separated and living apart from one's spouse
In my opinion:
What Axl is trying to say in this song; it's the loss from a person who he used to love a lot; however the still has a link with her, even though he gave everything to her, he no longer feels empathy from her.
Axl feels lonely and like the time is ticking and he's still talking to himself while he thinks of what could have been in his sentimental relation.
In some way, he tries to express bipolar feelings, suddenly his world comes down because of his relation. He tells he will find "another way" (Suicide) "or day", therefore with his multiple emotional seasons, maybe he will find his soulmate.
From feeling extremely well, he then goes to the real world, "he doesn't talk too loud, or walk so proud"... suddenly nothing has a meaning in his life, he feels lonely and depressed. So the "cold heartbeaker" (You could be mine) gets his heart broken.
Axl tries to get out of this sadness. even though his friends there were for him, and told him the storm was coming he didn't care...
Axl says he will find a girl like the one he lost so now he will solve problems on his own.
In the end, he expresses how he never wanted to end this relation. Definitely Axl was on a very sad mood of his life.
..He was seeing Divorce coming...
Dice "Realmente nunca quiso matar esa relacion sentimental."
....Creo que presagiaba el Divorcio...
