Somewhere Only We Know Lyrics
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on

This song is about a connection, to somebody or somewhere, whoever and wherever, that may be.
For me, it tells me about my mum, who I lost several years ago. I've mourned, and come through the grief. I'm happy and settled, and I have happy memories of my mum, but I miss her dearly.
The song takes me back to the simple little things we did, and the simple places that we went. The parks, the rivers, the trees.
I as grow old, I want those things so much more. I want my mum back, just for a minute, I want her to let me in. I want to show her my kids, I want to tell her what I've done.
Why don't we go, somewhere only we know.
This song is full of symbolism about life and living, and of people and things arounds us. It talks about simplicity of life versus the complicated one. The singer probably wanted a more simpler life which is very much different to his present life. The song might also refer to the "past" possibly about two people, being friends and then the sorrounding changes and so they did. It's can also mean the want to reconnect to something or someone you wanted to or the desire to reach out to someone or tell them that they were important and they mean everything to you. It could also mean yourself, having problems or just an odd feeling of wanting to return to a much simpler life, or yet to start everything new. "I'm getting old and I need something to rely on", refers to the possibility of getting tired of facing the world alone and you want someone whom you can reconnect to or share your feelings. There is the person you want to reconnect yourself to but it seems impossible for you to reach out. "So tell me when you gonna let me in", the question of when that person will ever allow you to enter his/her life. "If you have a minute why dont we go?", possibly seeing someone having a problem and you want to help that person, "talk about it somewhere only we know". "This could be the end of everything, so why dont we go? somewhere only we know", refers to the desire to be a part of someone's life, the one you wanted for so long and the one whom you probably wanted to help, and have share of everything you have in this world. "Somewhere only we know" doesnt have to refer to a place. It might be a feeling, a thing, a desire, or just a thought. It is very symbolistic to each and everyone of us.

This is about Earth.
He's an old man, and he can't believe that the Earth is slowly dying.
The path where he used to go is deserted due to pollution, and trees are falling down because of deforestation.

I think that’s a song for your real love you’ve tried with many different people but it’s never that pure love you used to have...and you’re tired of unrealistic expectations of love and couples an you’re ready to settle down with that special someone who made it all easy and special without big effort just by staying by your side... he’s saying when you’re gonna let me in ?? I’m getting old and i need someone to rely on that means time’s ticking and you haven’t made your mind but I want you do you want me or no?? ... I don’t know

I think that he is trying to get through a hard time and is trying to push through it and br strong but this place is his safe place where he can think and he is seeking guidance from someone who isn't there or is dead who he had a strong relationship with and shared this place with them.

its a person whom you never thought would be dear to your heart. That even though you no longer see or even talk to each other he will always have a soft spot in your heart. Thinking about the memories makes you want to go back because those are innocent memories when you felt your best.It means that the present is not yet convincing for you to forget those things in the past.

I think, personality, that this is about a dead love one. A man is remembering a close friend that somehow died and the man is trying to forget about his friend by sort of going down "Memory Lane" or going to where they would go alot in this case, the woods. But no matter how hard the guy tries, he can never forget his friend. So since he can't forget he just gets it out and goes kinda crazy and thinking that he sees his dead friend and getting so crazy that he kills himself and goes "Somewhere only we Know" or heaven where he sees his dead friend again.

Someone is trying to let go of the past. It also sounds like he's trying to let go of his loved ones like friends or family. To me, it sounds like someone the person was closed to died or moved away and the person has been avoiding anything that reminds him/her of that person and right after he/she left the person took a trip down memory lane and did it again sometime later.

This reminds me of my friend who is a girl and me (who is a boy). We were best friends and when we got to middle school we had till stop being friends or else people will start a rumor about us. When the song says, "somewhere only we know" I think of a place where me and my best friend can still be friends without gossip getting in the way.

This reminds me of my best friend who soon turned into something more than a friend. We were close for so long that it was hard to say goodbye when he had to go to a different school. This song is like how I remembered how life used to be with him. I wish he was with me today but I have to wait three years until I see him again. I think the song is someone remembering and trying to let go of a lover like how I let go of my best friend.

"oh simple thing where have you gone" things are not that simpe anymore. As either distance or fondness grows it becomes more difficult. "and if you have a minute why don't we go talk about it somewhere only we know". Let's go back to that place and talk about it. Whatever it is.

A man pleading with his lover lets go somewhere only we know. A happy place where they can talk. Even though he mentions this could be the end he means this could end all our problems and be the beginning of something for them. He's getting older and wants to be happy. It seems so simple to go to that place only they know. She has to open up to him to find the same happiness.

This is the one song that, every time I hear it, I can't help but cry. This is probably one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. I believe it is a song that expresses one's love for one special person, and how they embrace everything around them, sing about everything that surrounds them, the nature, the people, everything; and then relate it all back to one special person. It is a truly moving song.

I thinks its about someone whose dying and he is reassuring the Person that he loves that it will be ok on the other side by referring to a time that their love was simple and uncomplicated and complete (oh simple thing where have u gone , I'm getting tiered and I need somewhere to begin) their trying to be strong for the ppl his leaving behind "(if u have a minute y don't we go talk about its somewhere only we know)" and while their reflecting on his life he tries to make amends with this person for their past mistakes ( this could be the end of everything) that's jus my interpretation beautiful song

It makes me think of what we have lost as a whole of humanity. As if he is an old man regressing to a times when things were much more simple, technology or people in general. He wants things to go back to what they were when people were kind and not so focused on money etc.

This song is very touching to me. It sorta makes me emotional, in a good way, I guess. It makes me picture two people, hand-in-hand, sitting on one of the branches of a pear tree. The tree is on a hill, which looks over a huge field, with perfect-shade-of-green grass. The two people look out at a gorgeous sunset. The sky fades from a light blue to an orange and then to a yellow. They watch the golden-orange sun fade behind the horizon. They don't say anything, because they already know that they'll be there forever. But something changes, and they used to be best friends, but then they rarely see each other. But they still miss each other. From this, the song makes me think that it is about two people who were extremely close, and had their own special "spot", just for the them. It was a place where they felt a sense of security. They felt content serene. It could be the end of everything, for all we know, and they wouldn't care. They were fine just where they were. But time seems to fade, and the memories were forgotten. Don't get me wrong - I don't mean that they grew apart and went their seperate ways. I just mean that life rushed by, and changes were made without anyone actually thinking about the consequences. They grow older, yet miss what once was. It was a special spot for them. They couldn't exactly explain the feeling that their "spot" gave them, it was just "right". One of them comes across the place they used to hang out, and begins to wonder where it all went wrong. But he/she wants to fix it. The person wants to talk it out with the other person, just so they can relive those memories. Like the song says, "If you have a minute, why don't we go somewhere only we know...?"
