I believe this song could be about Tom Chaplins "abuse of alcohol". He wants to stop and tries to stop, every night. But he can't. Therefore he prays to god and calls for help. Despite of the fact he feels unable to solve the problem he keeps trying and each time he fails it feels as if he's dying.
I've no idea whether I'm right or wrong, but this was my best guess. I hope you liked it.
