I believe this is an analogue of one's communion with "God". When meditating as one drifts to sleep, one can resolve inner conflict and struggle, and normally allow themselves the peace to fall asleep. Upon waking, life takes over and then we deal with it's stresses and conflict the best that we can, often ignoring the peace we had resolved at the end of the previous day. At the moment of conflict resolution, this Godly communion can reveal itself, but trying to force it while in the midst of daily self struggle, that peace will be out of reach.
