I think a big point is missed about Judas. He played the role he was destined to play. Without his betrayal there was no crucifixion and thus no resurrection. Jesus knew what Judas was doing and kept him around in order to do it. Judas was a zealot, a man that thought if Jesus was forced into action the salvation of the Hebrew people would come. He misunderstood Jesus' message and point. Judas expected "The Savior" to free them through action not thought. To free their bodies not their souls. He was driven to guilt and ultimately suicide when he realized what Jesus truly was saying.
As to the song, yeah, it's about making the wrong relationship decisions. That is pretty clear. She simply uses the Judas/Jesus allegory to show it.

Quick observation: Doesn't the bible say that people will NOT KNOW the anti-christ is the actual anti-christ?? Logically, therefore, if you even think for a moment that someone is the "anti-christ", you are automatically wrong - because you will NOT KNOW. Although you may think you are closer to God than the rest of us - you will not KNOW either - so stop talking to the rest of us like we will not be in on the anti-christ secret - because you won't be in on it either.
Geez, you people throw around "anti-christ" like there is no tomorrow - pun intended.

I think Lady Gaga is a very smart and pretty girl. I think people should stop hating on her because of this song. It's not about hating god!

It doesn't matter what the enterpretation is... The problem with this song is that it's "catchy".. There's the problem.. Either enterpretation can be considered offensive to some.

While Gaga could be seen as a satanist, she will always remain a creation of God. Nothing can change that. He loves her. We should too. Maybe not her music, but the real person behind it all.

    Never cast stones, nobody's perfect.

    Love & Grace people, it's what's needed.

Jjust for the jesus freaks who can't seem to get their bible text correct--judas betrayed jesus for 30 pieces of silver and hung himself upon a tree-i think people need to calm down and respect this song for what it is worth--adult music at its best--making you think as an educated individual--again, for those of us that refuse to be sheep and refuse to be a servent to being told what to do--she is only being expressive and creative

i could be wrong, but wasn't the song or video released on Easter? The day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus? This could be looked as good because she could be saying to forgive like Jesus forgave, or looked as bad calling Christians "Holly Fools" mocking them for following Jesus. GaGa was brought up from a Roman Catholic background and was offended, and felt like a "freak" in a all girls Catholic school. When she made Alejondro, something in her video offended the Catholic's and made them cry out that she was showing blasphemy against Jesus, which means she is mocking them also. Wonder if that was done on purpose? Then in her song she goes on to say "I am beyond repentance". In the Bible it says that the only unforgivable sin is to show blasphemy against the Holy Spirit of God. Beyond repentance? So she could be actually boldly stating that she is showing blasphemy towards Jesus. Then she says "Judas kiss me if offenced or wear ear condom next time" ... who would be offended if she is only talking about a relationship? We can all relate to either having that "Judas", or being a "Judas" if used in a relationship sense. Could it be those same Catholics who were offended at "Alejondro"? Is she now telling them to stop listening to her music if they are offended? I think the song goes both ways, Biblical and Relationship. But the only offensive way is Biblical. Why? If she is mocking Jesus, she is mocking the people who believe in Jesus. That could be seen as hate from a Christian. I'm sure a real Christian would choose to love her anyway, because that's what Jesus does. I love you GaGa. =)

Judas betrayed Jesus, sold him for Money, lead to his death. Judas' betrayal killed Jesus. So in simple: She is choosing to kill Christ or Religion in her life by choosing Judas/Fame & Money. She says "In the most Biblical sense,I am beyond repentance". The Bible says there is only one sin that is beyond repentance and that is the denial of Jesus Christ.

Bible: No man can serve two masters, he will love one and hate the other. As a christian you are taught "Fear of the Lord" Not Fear as in being afraid but Fear in the sense of Honor. He music videos Do Not Bring Honor to the Lord.

Don't forget Lucifer was the an Angel of Musical Talent. Satan's greatest trick is making people believe he doe not exist.

just to let everyone know.....the devil also believes in Jesus and God and he will do anything in his power to destroy people's faith and blind them to the truth, if u say u're a Christian that means that u r a ambassador for Jesus, and if u listen to music making a mockery of our Lord and Savior then you must check u're priorities, cause somethings wrong!

Gaga IS NOT a Christian, even if she says she is, her lyrics prove otherwise!

I wasn't sure what to make of this at first. I like the song. Yes I do think it a bit blasphemous to the church and it's beliefs; but do I think she's the anti-christ? No, Absolutely not. I think she chose a poor representation of her feelings. Both to gather more attention (which she hardly needs more of) and to rage at whoever the song was about. Do I think she was angry at god when she wrote this? It's possible but who knows. It isn't my place to judge. I'm not god. Let it go people. Like it or hate it. Either way you aren't likely to cause a big enough stir to get her tossed out except for of Vatican city perhaps.

Did any of you watch her on that Gaga-thon or whatever it was in Fuse? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCn_QcS-4pY

She said the idea is that Judas was meant to betray Jesus, it had to be that way. That's what had to happen or the "ultimate prophecy of life would not have been fulfilled". That it's "a metaphor for struggle & perseverance".
Still, it's her own interpretation of Biblical events. She also says she wants to encourage her fans to "worship themselves". Interpret that.

Gaga isn't trying to end any sort of religion.
This song is referring stories from the bible to her past relationships.
It has nothing to do with actually bringing down Jesus.
You guys are taking things way out of hand. Not everything needs to be taken to heart.

The author of this song addresses the nature of spirituality from three different perspectives: the perspective of Christ, of Mary Magdalene, and of the author herself. Because of the words that the author places in the mouths of each of these characters, "Judas" must be interpreted as both a moderately conservative religious song and a genuine reflection of the author's spirituality. Because of the content of the lyrics, the listener must make the interpretation that the author herself does not necessarily interpret her own spiritual life as being completely positive, but that she has a genuine desire to reform.

Lyrics from the perspective of Christ:
"(I) Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain
Even after three times he betrays me"

    and

    "I'm just a holy fool
    Oh baby, he's so cruel
But I'm still in love with Judas, baby"

These lyrics describe the infinite love of Christ, who forgives those who sin against him. The apostle who "betrays" (i.e. denies) Christ three times is Peter. Her reference to "a King without a crown" is a reference to the sign that Jesus was crucified under: "IESVS·NAZARENVS·REX·IVDÆORVM" ("Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews"). Because this song affirms a conservative interpretation of the nature of Christ as being one of infinite love, Gaga's religious/spiritual perspective is essentially conservative.

Lyrics from the perspective of Mary Magdalene:
"When he comes to me I am ready
I'll wash his feet with my hair if he needs"

    and

"In the most Biblical sense I am beyond repentance
Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind"

These lyrics associate the author with Mary Magdalene, who was a prostitute and who once washed the feet of Jesus during the Feast at the House of Levi. In the music video, Gaga plays the role of Mary Magdalene in fictionalized portrayals of Mary's role in Jesus' arrest at Gethsemene (3:23), Mary washing the feet of Jesus in the House of Levi (3:46), and the attempt to stone Mary Magdalene (5:05), which Jesus averted. Because Gaga conscientiously associates herself with Mary, and because Mary is a traditionally portrayed as a sexualized and flawed (but genuinely repentant) female character, Gaga probably interprets herself as sexualized and flawed (but genuinely repentant). (Video @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wagn8Wrmzuc)

Lyrics which can only be explained from the perspective of the author:

    "I couldn’t love a man so purely
Even prophets forgave his crooked way
I’ve learned love is like a brick
You can build a house or sink a dead body"

"But in the cultural sense I just speak in future tense
Judas kiss me if offenced or wear ear condom next time"

    "I wanna love you
But something's pulling me away from you
    Jesus is my virtue
And Judas is the demon I cling to"

Because these lyric do not resemble the perspective of any biblical character, they must be genuine reflections of the author's own sense of spirituality. Gaga's reflection of her own sense of spirituality, after reflecting on her own (conservative) interpretation of Christ, is that she herself falls short of her own moral expectations and values. Even though the author recognizes what is good, she is still attracted to evil. She doesn't feel capable of loving a man "purely"; she feels incapable of not offending others through the pursuit of her art; and, she feels that corrupting forces are "pulling" her away from "virtue".

By affirming her own faults and having confidence in the forgiveness of Christ for the genuinely repentant, this song indicates Gaga's own genuinely conservative interpretation of spirituality, and her desire to grow spiritually. Some interpretations on this site claim that "Judas" is about the opposite: the general rejection of spirituality or worse, Satanism. Listeners who hold these interpretations aren't making an effort to intelligently interpret the lyrics of the song and/or have little/no active understanding of the Christian theology on which this song is based.

I think that this song is about making choices in this world. We love Judas because we love doing sinful and evil things. Jesus is our virtue, but we eventually come back to Judas(evil ways). Temptations, lust, gluttony, pride. We'll come come back to it all because we enjoy it so much.

She mentions she believes in god interviews but in no interview did she say she follows him...she only acknowledges that there is a god.
