#1 top rated interpretation:This song's interpretations are obvious...it's about the use of drugs, specifically cough syrup and how the use of it is deadly even though it may not seem that harmful. The first verse is a play by play of a boys first time trying cough syrup with friends and then it becoming addicting for him, eventually being the cause of his death.
After the first verse he goes on to explain how today's rappers, specifically Lil' Wayne, underestimate the power of their lyrics to young kids.
"He just wanted to act like them, he just wanted to rap like him" is one example of this.
He also explains how much drugs can change someone and that he has seen many of his friends die due to overdoses, "I've seen Oxycotton take three lives, I've seen cocaine bring out the demons inside".
He finishes off the song by saying that drugs can consume you and strip you ofall your lifes potential.
This song is amazing and the video is one of the strongest you will see. I love Macklemore'smusic and his style of hip hop. Truly a classic song! I also recommend "Wings" if you like this song. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
