   And his one night stand ...he has had so many
   That he just wants this guy to be the one to say that he will stay. Its a beautiful soulful song.

   I interpret this song to be about a man who may be narcissistic. He knows he doesn't love her "this ain't love its clear to see" (because he is incapable of loving). He however wants her to stay because she's all he needs. She feeds his ego and supplies him. He wants to continue to use her for his benefit "your all 'I' need". A wolf in sheep's clothing. I don't know that's just my view otherwise, why keep her around if its not love.

   Maybe it's about a man who has had an affair and he's trying to explain himself while begging his true love to stay with him in spite of his one night stand. He knows the one night stand meant nothing, a moment of weakness and poor self control. Much more meaningful of a song if you look at it this way.

   It is a great rythym with great lyrics if only they meant something. This song sounds like somethmgs so much deeper than what it actually is. The first time I heard it I thought it was about a guy who was losing a loved one. In actuallity it is about a man banging some girl who wants her to stick around for a while. There is not a whole lot deep about this song no matter what way people want to see it. It is actually a preety aweful waste of a good beat.

   When I first heard this song an saw the video of everyone wearing black I thought it was for a funeral. They were saying that the one who passed should stay with them forever. Before that scene they were saying stay with me and don't go. That's what I thought.

   'Stay With Me' is about a man who seeks a long lasting, loving relationship. He may sleep around with girls including the girl he has feelings for but it will never compensate what he truely desires; to be with and loved by that special someone to call his own. This girl obviously means a lot to him because he's so bothered by the situation. He understands the girl may not have feelings back or will ever think the same of him but he wants to be wth her and loves her none the less. He is just lonely and needs that special someone in his arms to stay with him as the album title suggests 'in the lonely hour'.

   We all interpret things different based on our life situations and how we can relate to the song. I heard this song tonight for the first time and felt it described my situation and feelings to a T. I am recently out of a long term relationship. I lost the only man my son had a fatherish relationship with and the person I thought I would marry. I lost the first place either of us felt was home. I am glad to be out of the relationship; I know it wasn't right. But there is a mourning period not so much for my ex as for my life. I have to redefine it all and feel overwhelmed and lost.
   I am dating someone now that I know isn't right for me either ( he is a cheater amongst other things). I know it will never last. But in the meantime being with him is filling a void in my life. I am lonely. When in his arms I feel momentarily like I can pretend everything is ok. I know it's not love. But it's a repreive. Perhaps it's an addiction. I try not to get too emotionally involved because I know he will only hurt me.
   Why am I so emotional? No, it's not a good look; gain some self control. Deep down I know it will never work. But you can lay with me here so it doesn't hurt.

    I love this song because it perfectly describes me before I met my amazing wife. I wanted love, and I wanted to settle down, but I was fat, awkward and unattractive. I wasn't good enough for anyone I went on dates with. I started to see prostitutes. Every time I left a motel I would feel guilt ridden, but I "still needed love, because I'm just a man". I clung to what I could have because I didn't believe that I could every meet anyone as wonderful as my wife.

    While some people may interpret this song as just a clingy guy begging his one night stand to stay so he doesn't have to settle for a cold bed, to me this i as song about searching for love in a way that you know almost certainly won't succeed, but trying anyway. No, it's not love when he's only known the person in his bed for one night, but perhaps he hopes it could be, that if his bedpartner would just stay with him they could see if love could develop. He already knows he's no good at one night stands, but out of loneliness and not having a regular lover beside him he continues to pursue them, and continues to seek more out of them than his partners probably want.

    Song is about feeling something special for someone....but its not love. asking that person to 'stay with me' even though its 'not love'. He can't let go for fear of the unknown.

He sleeps with women, but a one night stand is never enough. He wishes for more every time, even though he knows that they are not the one person he needs the most.
    For lack of better words, he is clingy, but not in an annoying way. He is lonely.
    In the chorus, the lyrics 'This ain't love, it's clear to see, but darling, stay with me' are said. This represents loneliness, and the search for something more when there's nothing left to be found.
    The haunting melodies and acoustics of the song capture the isolation and sadness that the artist is expressing in the lyrics, and add to the overall message of the song.
    All in all, Stay With Me is about loneliness and absent love.
