Blackout Lyrics

I just drove under the Lincoln sign

To where New Jersey meets the New York line

And through the tunnel for the last time

With everything crumbling behind

I stood still until I felt the shakes

of two bodies that were parting...

Blackout. In the beginning of the song Buddy goes on to talk about how this is the last time that he will drive to see his girlfriend. Now he knew that something bad was going to happen soon between them but he didn't want to be the one to break the news. In the last line of the second verse he say's "I know it hurts but its time to break" which means he broke the news of there separation.

In the chorus he goes to sing about how when he lays in bed he can't move because it brings back all the memories that they had there. He then goes on to say that he has to shed the weight of there separation and his depression before he can move on find someone knew to be happy with.

After the chorus he goes to say that he has so many worries that there pilled up like mountains and that his pain hurts so much that he can barely stay strong. When Buddy goes on to say that "Theres are times There are times I reach for the phone to tell you that there might still be some hope" he is expressing that he wants to call her up and sorry I want you back. But when he relalizes what he is saying it clicks to him that that is the liquor going to his head. He then goes on to hope that she can survive without him but he is not fine at all with this.

After the chorus he goes on to say that he got so attached to her that no one ever taught him how to let it all go. He says how he can't see clearly but then says how will he ever know if he is seeing clearly. And then Buddy goes on to ask the question is there really a point to any of this and how do I let go of her. Then he goes to say that in order for him to be able sleep and dream he has to drink till he blackouts. But he then says that even though he is blacked out she still is winding up in his dreams. the next two lines in that verse I am not very clear about.

In the next three verses he describes the only way he can fall asleep. In the first one he says that her face pops up so much that he would drink so much that he would blackout and be able to sleep. And in the next verse he says the same thing except he take a shot of liquor for what he lost. And in the final verse he says that he can sleep easy if he blackouts.
