Shinedown: I'll Follow You Meaning
Song Released: 2012
I'll Follow You Lyrics
I know my better half would fade
And all my doubt is a staircase for you
Opened out of this space
The first step is the one you believe in
The second one might be profound.

This is not a song about faith or God. It's about two people who love each other and the devotion they have for each other. Interpret it as you will but at the end of the day it's a love song more specifically it's about Brent's undying love and devotion to the women he loves:
Lead vocalist Brent Smith sings on this song about an endless devotion to his girlfriend Teresa Collier over strings and piano. Drummer Barry Kerch commented to Alternative Addiction: "Really it's a love song pure and simple. I'll do whatever it takes; I'll follow you anywhere and everywhere."

you are going to fall yet there is someone to help you up.
you will cry your best friend will always be there for you
you will loose someone special another person will try to love you for you
you will be hated someone out there will see the beauty in you
you will feel like a hopeless person hope will be waiting

I can absolutely see it when it comes to the relationships in our lives. Especially those that are very dear be it family friends or lovers. I very recently lost one of my very dearest friends due to an intentional drug overdose. To my knowledge he had been clean for 6 years and we did not stop speaking because WE wanted to but because it what I believed to be best for him in trying to mend his marriage. At any rate, I'm still struggling with this and this song May be too late for me and my Mike but its every single thought and feeling I think and still feel for him. Test in peace my brother. I will always love you!

It's all about a couple embarking on a new journey together. The couple is sure that they want to spend their lives together (mariage being the first step for exemple), but their "new" life (kids, house, etc) is a harder step to take. The unknown can be scary. But not matter what, they are jumping in together (the storm= anything, space= unknown) no matter how hard it can get (falling from grace).
The song also describes a need for one another. When one is in doubt or lost, the other finds the way (staircase out of this maze). When one is cold (sad, frightened, stressed), the other will confort (keep warm). Sometimes things get hard, and a couple needs their space (leave you behind = make decisions on my own, think of one as an individual and not a couple) but they aknowledge that they complete each orher (better half). There are things in life that the couple "wants" (money, big house, etc) but one thing they "need" is each other. Together, they can work for the rest.
Love it!! It is my wedding song :)

Its not a love song. Its a rememberance song. In his video he looked and dressed like Freddie mercury which had a lot of bad publicity for being gay. This song came out after he passed. They could b good friends or brent could b a fan of his.

This song about the one person We will go through our live with. The will never judge you for who you are. They will just love you for who you are.
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I never heard this until me and my boyfriend and I were 1300 miles apart. He sent me a text and said this song is to me. I believe it means that no matter what choices you make right or wrong or out of impulse, that there's that one person you don't want to face those choices without. I think you can interrupt it in many ways, however to me it means he loves me and doesn't want to lose me and is willing to make whatever sacrifices he has to be with me and vice versa. Its about true love and no matter what life faces you with you want the one person to be there with you because they make you complete. We haven't had the easiest relationship but we are together now and happy. Apart we felt like something was missing. We are each others better half and I love this song.

I believe this is a very spiritual song.I'm so in love with it. I cry everytime it comes on. Its about loving someone so much unconditionally no matter what you will stay by their side and follow them anywhere. Even when they pass they will still be there to keep you warm.. they climb the staircase to you. Meaning they will meet in heaven someday. What a beautiful song. Anyone can interpet whatever they want in any lyrics.

I think the song is about true love. The guy in the song will go through whatever he has to as long as his woman is there by his side. He would truly be lost without her. That is true love right there.

It's an AMAZING love song :-) Basically I believe he is saying that he can't leave the girl he loves behind, and he knows if he had the assurance, he would still not be the best of himself. (his better half would fade), then he goes on to say that he will always keep her warm, and he will be there every step of the way even if they go all the way down. He always states "you can have all the money and the pearls", he really doesn't want ANYTHING else but this girl he loves :)

I believe its about being there for someone you love even though they might be be on the wrong path and might bring you down with them.

Bret gave us the meaning of this song at a concert last September. He said it was meant for your love, your family, or your friends. The battles you face together are nothing compared to your feelings for one other. You'll always be there for them as they will for you.

Bret is a Christian.
The man in the song is too but his faith is weak. He doesnt have 100% assurance of God--that doubt builds a staircase to his unbelieving girlfriend.
He is basically telling her he will choose her over God if thats what it takes and even though he could be in hell(in the deep)he would still be with her. He wants her to walk up the staircase but will not leave her behind.
