Lucy Lyrics

Hey Lucy, I remember your name
I left a dozen roses on your grave today
I'm in the grass on my knees, wipe the leaves away
I just came to talk for a while, got some things I need to say

Now that it's over, I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all...

Lucy is a song about a young couple who had a pregnancy and felt bad about it. They did not know what they should do about it so they got an abortion. In the song, the singer writes about how he misses the baby and how the couple made the wrong decision. They go to a counseler who suggests they name the baby and give it a grave for sake of closure. He also sings about how someday he will see her again in heaven.

This song definitely makes me cry every time because I had two miscarriage's at a month each. Obviously way to early to tell the gender. I can't even imagine having make the decision to abort.

To be honest, I thought it was talking about him losing his wife or girlfriend or something, but then I found out that John Cooper wrote it about a couple he knew back when he was in High School, and they made a baby, and then decided to have an abortion. He mentions in an interview how couples who go through with abortions have traumatic stress and problems afterwards, and are depressed, and full of regret. But it definitely can have several interpretations.

this is what i say its about:

a couple has lost their baby and their doubting if they can ever get over her death. they try and try to forget her and move on, but it never happens.

i wrote a book based on my meaning of this song. its called Her Name Was Lucy.

This song is obviously about gret loss, but for what can be interpreted in different ways.. But I agree with the whole abortion situation... I think the father just wants his little girl back and regretted aborting her... You can feel the greif in the song... When I first heard this I instantly felt bad foe all those whom have been through this situation...my heart goes out to them all...<3 I honestly cried my eyes out when I first heard it.. I still do.. :'(

    Sorry it's kinda long

The great thing about this song is it can apply to any type of situation, whether its a friend that died, or a mother or a daughter or a sister or girlfriend. Its all about losing someone you love and the grief experience.

I remember when I first knew this song existed, I was at a concert with my best friend and a bunch of other people from my church. I'd never really heard of Skillet before but it sounded fun so I went. Me and my friend went out during a change break after The Letter Black was done(there were 3 other bands performing before Skillet went on) and bought some cds from the vendors there. Ashley (my best friend) got the Awake cd and I grabbed the insert book with they lyrics and when I got to the end I saw the lyrics and my heart stopped
"Hey Lucy I remember your name. I left a dozen roses on your grave today"
When I was little my best friend/blood sister was killed by her father. Her name was Lucyanna, and only me and her brother were allowed to call her Lucy

This song is so personal to me, and expresses my feelings about Lucy's death perfectly. It was always my fault she died and there are days when I really can't live with the choices I made that resulted in her death, and not a minute goes by when I don't wish that she was still here and we could be kids some more. I will always remember

A young couple had a child and were ashamed at having one at such a young age. They got an abortion and later regreted it. They went to see a physcologist who told them the best way to deal with the guilt would be to treat it like a real death in the family, so they bought a gravestone and named the child Lucy. The song is told from the fathers point of view and it shows how he has imagined what life could've been like had he and his partner not aborted their child.

John Cooper (the singer) said that this song was about an unmarried, young couple and she got pregnant......she felt ashamed and decided to abort the baby...months later they felt bad at what they had done so they went to a physiologist and she said the best way to deal with it was so to name the child and have a real funeral for her....so they did that and named her Lucy.....but this song also resembles from who when John was younger his mom and best friend had died...so you can use this song in all different circumstances but thats the real meaning(:
