its more an issue of self image imho.
he doesn't see himself worthy of heaven but such actions are generally viewed as forms of salvation and as such would send someone to heaven. just my thoughts... -
I think that this is a song about his a guy and his girlfriend cheated on him (possibly). He loves her so much that he is willing to go at any heighth to be with her. He doesn't want to lose her. But what caught my eye is I think the person in this song might not be atheist? Look at the lyrics "I will never let you fall
i'll stand up with you forever
i'll be there for you through it all
'even if saving you sends me to heaven.'" so it appears to me that this person might be, but I'm not sure. But it's just a song about how far your willing to go for someone.
