Long Way Home Lyrics
Back to the place only you and I share
Remember all the memories?
The fireflies and make-believe
Kicking back in the old school yard
Singing songs on our guitars
This is our reality
Crazy stupid, you...

I think the song simply means that when "he" takes his special girl back where she needs to go, she'll find another man and he is worried, so he will use the longest way back to her home so they can spent as much time together as possible, so she realizes how great that he is, and wont find another guy quite like him. :) - Maggie L.

I can't believe it, you all say it's a romantic metaphor, but I thought it was about car sex lol.

Luke already told us what the song is about
Great meaning, Luke, well done
It’s not about taking the short way home

Was I the only one who wondered if this song was a metaphor for abstinence? I know it seems ludicrous but the emphasis on "taking it slow" seemed to imply that to me.

He just got kinda bored of the short way home.

He liked it better when it was only just the two of them without having to worry about busy tasks and all the memories that they shared but it also said "take it back to the old school yard singing songs on our guitars" so I'm probably assuming high school sweetheart? So I guess now they both have time to actually be together but he wants to take the long way home due to him not wanting to leave and just wanna stay and be with her every second of the day not missing anymore things that's going on her life

He wants to take the long way home, because he can't bear to be apart from her. Every minute with her feels like heaven but every second apart feels like wasted time.
