   Dear Winter is a song about a future son Ryan, one of the AJR band members wishes to have. Although the song is sung by Jack, Ryan’s brother and band mate, Ryan confirmed in an interview that he wrote the song, and that it is, indeed about a boy. He pictures Winter growing up, from birth to taking his first shot on his 21st birthday. Repeatedly though, it seems he is snapped back to reality, with lines like “But sh*t, I gotta meet your mom first.” The whole song is so honest and it just gives it a cute, heartwarming feel.

   This is a single guy (Ryan)'s message for his future child, apologizing for how long it's taking to find the kid's mom. Though Ryan expressed on Instagram that he wrote the song during a dark time in his life, the song is quirky and heartwarming.
   
   Because no indication is given as to Winter's gender, many people see their own story in this song.
   
   For those reading in 2020, Ryan still hasn't found Winter's mom. We believe in him, though.

   This song is about the daughter, named “Winter” he has yet to have. Her name is “Winter” but in spite of the fact that he sees it as a bad a$$ name, he internalizes her growing up with it.!This is further described in the lyrics “I have to meet your mom first”. His snap back to reality that he has to have the right girl before making the perfect daughter.
   A great, honest and sweet song.
