AJR: Way Less Sad Meaning
Song Released: 2021
Way Less Sad Lyrics
There's L.A but it's always kind of sunny out
And I don't want to hide no more
So I set my bar real low
I'm A OK
I'm A OK
You say it but you just don't mean it

I think this song is about the idea of "fake it till you make it" because it basically says "no i'm not happy but i won't let that get me down"
-
this song is about wanting to be happy but not being up to that level yet. the character wants to move somewhere to brighten his scenery but fails to as he sees places with a pessimistic point of view. “i should move cause new york is getting muddy out. there’s l.a but it’s always kinda sunny out…” he admits to this pessimistic point of view by “setting [his]my bar real low.”
“don’t you love it? don’t you love it?” is probably a family member/ friend asking him which he replies “no, i ain’t happy yet. but i’m way less sad.” he’s acknowledging the fact that he isn’t happy yet but he’s made some progress in not being as sad as he was.
“i may be wrong. i may be wrong. it’s stupid but it’s all i have.” here he’s appreciating the things that get him happy and living in that feeling.
we hear the pessimism again later on when he says “i’ve been counting sheep but the sheep all died, and i’m not dead yet so i guess i’ll be alright.” here he’s made progress since the beginning of the song. he knows that he’ll be alright at the end of the day. doing this, he is ‘way less [pessimistic].’ -
I think its because most of their songs are kinda sad, and thats I think the songs are what events are happening in their life. So they are getting happier, but not exactly yet because they life is still kinda rough. If you listened to Neotheater, you'd probaby know what im talking about. There is songs like "Karma" "turning out"and they even titled one "break my face". So I think they are getting happier cause the events in they're life is not that bad anymore.

Covid is almost over, and I feel like it's a build on Bummerland. He talked in Bummerland about how Covid made him kind of depressed, and now he's getting to do more things and he's getting happier but he's still kind of sad because it's not over yet.
