AJR: Sober Up (Feat. Rivers Cuomo) Meaning
Sober Up (Feat. Rivers Cuomo) Lyrics
I hope that you're missing me, 'cause it makes me feel young
Hello, hello, last time that I saw your face
Was recess in second grade, and it made me feel young
Won't you help me sober...
-
Google: not affected by alcohol; not drunk.
Obviously, this song is about leaving those ordinaryish people (get it?) behind, quit the partying, and have a normal life.

The official song meaning that AJR explained, is that "Sober Up" is about the simplicity of emotion. When we're young, we can simply say "I'm mad," or "I'm sad." We have our little kid crushes, and we give each other flowers, and it's an emotion as simple as "I like you." But as you get older your emotions get more complex, and there isn't really a word for it anymore.
Sober Up is about longing for that feeling again. Our emotions are so complicated, that sometimes we cry for no reason, and then laugh at ourselves for doing so. When we're kids everything is so simple, not even just our emotions.
Also the other person did a good job too, I think the song was also about that. -
I can't find ANY websites that really talk about the lyrics for this song, so, those people that wanna know, I'm here.
(Backstory - You can skip if you want)
Today I turned on some music, and just started writing down some random things, some things that I thought of, and some things that made sense to no one else, but made perfect sense to me. Then the song changed to Sober Up, by AJR. I put it on loop, and just sat in my bed, spacing out while listening to the song. Then I realized that the lyrics dragged something out of me. I couldn't tell what, but the random sentences I had written and the song lyrics fit together like puzzle pieces. Earlier in the year, I had gotten into a good school that I will be attending next year, but the problem was that all of my friends, and everyone I knew was going to the other school. I wasn't very happy about it, but when I listened to the song, and read the paper again, I realized I had written down my feelings about missing all my friends next year. Then I looked up the meaning for "Sober Up" by AJR, and I couldn't find anything, so here I am, putting together the lyrics piece by piece.
(Song meaning)
I think that the song, "Sober Up," by AJR, is about all the people that you leave behind as you go on through life, and never being able to recreate the same feeling with new people that you had with your old friends, and how all the people before you (The big kids that got drunk) had the same thing happen.
