I think this song is about being in a relationship but it breaks apart and the guy realises that he needs the girl.
Anesthesia is a numbing agent and acts as a metaphor for how this girl soothed or numbed the pain of all of his problems. Now she's gone and he has to face his problems. -
I think the song is about a girl leaving him when he needed her most. I think she was a person that Alec trusted and she helped him though tough times and it hit harder when she wasn't there for him to talk to.
