Avril Lavigne: Innocence Meaning
Innocence Lyrics
the first time in my life and now it's so great
slowing down I look around and I am so amazed
I think about the little things that make life great
I wouldn't change a thing about it
This is the best...

#1 top rated interpretation:i think her goal for writing this song was to say you need to find that one moment of happiness, that one thing that makes you feel so alive and free, and try to hold onto it. That's the "innocence" in life. She's saying you have to find something that just makes your life so happy and complete and never let it go. She doesnt want to come right out and say : "Hold onto the thing that makes you happy with iron grip." because honestly, I think we all know that's a little creepy. so instead she says : "This innocence is brilliant
I hope that it will stay . This moment is perfect. Please don't go away. I need you now and I'll hold on to it. Don't you let it pass you by..." meaning just find what amkes you happy and hold onto it. -
2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:This song is about capturing the grasp of existence, finding those things that makes us happy without feeling guilt or having doubt, we all have those moments but they disappear so quick, Avril is trying to help her self and all of us to hold on to the best feelings in life. That Innocence, it's all we need.

#3 top rated interpretation:Avril said this about it:
"Well, the song is about capturing a moment in time, of like ... a perfect moment of bliss and happiness and holding onto it. I'm very happy in my life right now. The song is always so beautiful to me, and I actually just listened to it yesterday 'cos I hadn't heard my CD for awhile and I wanted to flip through 'em—thinking about my live show—so I listened to it and I was like f*ck! I love that song too because it's so stripped down that you really hear my voice, and it comes across very singer-songwriter-y, which is of course a side to me that I have. And, um, I find it to be a very emotional song, too." -
It's about happiness and how you want to hold on to it. She thinks "Innocence" is brilliant and it's the first time in her life she's ever felt this happy
-
This song represents how when we have something we don't realize it's importance. We're all caught up in wanting something more, and we lose it. For example innocence, when we have it we are all for losing it but once we've lost it we feel how lucky we were to have it. We look back and feel the repentance. These little things we already have are enough to make us happy we just need to realize it for a fact.
-
Not everything is going to last forvever. Hold on to the memories that you have that make you at your happiest. So that when you are at your weakest points you can find your strenth in the things that you love.
-
I think this song is about you found the best thing happened in your life, with someone and you won't let it fade?
-
This song for me is about the feeling you get when your heart says "Everyone out there is doing wrong but I am not the one who get involves in those things yet I cannot do anything to make them know their doing something wrong and I am the correct person ,but still I enjoy this moment that I stay on the right side when everyone else is doing that crime "
In a nut shell this song is about the time you spend feeling sorry for your own self but you enjoy that moment of life and finally realize that life is a place that enjoying the time when you can enjoy it all that you can do to feel good . -
I think it's about when you are young and don't know about the bad in the world. That innocent state of being a kid and not knowing about the bad and just knowing so much. Once you get older you learn about the bad in the world at that "innocents" feeling of not knowing goes away mad you just aren't the same person anymore and you lose that part of you.

Maybe this isn't about Avril at all
Sounds more like a new born for me
You know, Innocence, First time of my life, Please stay, So beautiful it makes you wanna cry...
Souns so literal but i think it's the most aproppiate
And Abbey never was an addict she didn't ever likes drugs... just beer maybe -
I think its about her trying to get clean after being addicted to drugs, but because of her addiction, its hard for her and she recalls the first time she used it, how it felt and what it turned her into
Waking up to see that everything is okay (Meaning she didn't die from overdose or something)
the first time in my life and now it's so great (clearing up the fear of taking drugs due to the bad connotations in today's society)
slowing down I look around and I am so amazed (realizing how foolish she was before using drugs)
I think about the little things that make life great (remembering what she felt during the time she was high)
I wouldn't change a thing about it
This is the best feeling...
(not regretting her choice to do drugs and remembering how awesome it was)
This innocence is brilliant (referring to her first time taking drugs, because of the stories of people getting addicting, this is probably the most innocent you will feel after being addicted)
I hope that it will stay
This moment is perfect
Please don't go away (She hopes she wont get addicted to it)
I need you now (Oops too late)
and I'll hold on to it
Don't you
Let it pass you by... (Being in rehab and remembering the first high she felt, using it to get clean because afterwards, she will never be able to experience it ever again if she stays clean)
I found a place, so safe, not a single tear
The first time in my life and now it's so clear (The state of mind she was in when she was high, meaning every problem in her life disappeared)
Feel calm, I belong, I'm so happy here (admitting she likes getting high and feels that this is the real her)
It's so strong and now I let myself be sincere (she knows that its not right and need to get clean. hence the rehab bit up there)
It's the state of bliss
you think you're dreaming (describing how she felt when she was high)
it's the happiness inside
that you're feeling (knowing that all your problems disappear, being perfect)
it's so beautiful
it makes you wanna cry (knowing that if she gets clean she will never be able to experience this feeling again) -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
To me, innocence not only captures the essence and bliss of life but performance. To me it replicates the feeling you have when you're on stage and your innocent because nothing else matters; you can be whatever and forget about everything. From on the stage, the world seems perfect and she needs that.

Waking up to see that everything is okay
the first time in my life and now it's so great
slowing down I look around and I am so amazed
I think about the little things that make life great
"At this verse it shows waking up whether literally or hypothetically and realizing how good life actually is after living in the darkness of pain and realizing how precious life really is and its the little things that make life worth living"
I wouldn't change a thing about it
This is the best feeling...
This innocence is brilliant
I hope that it will stay
This moment is perfect
Please don't go away
I need you now
and I'll hold on to it
Don't you
Let it pass you by...
"And how when you get this realization or feeling you don't need to over look it but hold it close charish it because you never know when it will disappear"
I found a place, so safe, not a single tear
The first time in my life and now it's so clear
Feel calm, I belong, I'm so happy here
It's so strong and now I let myself be sincere
"I think this is kind of talking about finding your happy place maybe the place in your mind where you can store this realization so you can go back and look at it and remember it when times get hard and your able to be a strong and open up to more people or situations"
It's the state of bliss
you think you're dreaming
it's the happiness inside
that you're feeling
it's so beautiful
it makes you wanna cry
"This sing is definitely talking about realizing the good in life treasuring it and finding the spot in your mind everyone needs. This verse completely summarizes the feelings you'll get when you find the happiness and joy and peace loving life and appreciating the little things will give you.
*I may be wrong but this is what I get from it* -
I think this song is about appreciating and cherishing life because you only get to live it once
people should take advantage of every opportunity life gives you and to make the best of everything & to not miss out on any life moments cause youll never get them back -
FIRST time I heard this song I thought it was about sex lol but now the more I listen to it I know it's about enjoy every little moment of life and don't let anything pass you by cause you only have one life to live. but yeah I can see how it could about a guy she loves, the catch: he possibly doesn't realize it. and she's trying to tell him how what they have is so special.....but that is just my thoughts so don't go all crazy on me : )
