Album cover for Nobody's Home album cover

Song Released: 2004

Nobody's Home Lyrics

well,I couldn't tell you why she felt that way,
She felt it everyday.
And I couldn't help her,
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.

What's wrong, what's wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs,...

I think she is looking at her life from another point of view or she is looking at someone she has known's life.

The woman keeps screwing up her life, because her family abandon her or didn't like how she was living her life so they disowned her.

If she was left, she probably had a loving family before but then they just started having problems, she wants to go back to the loving family but they don't want her.

If they disowned her she didn't "Open her eyes" and realize they gave her many chances to get her life on track, or she was raped then knocked- up. And now without caring parents she has even more problems that she has to go through. She wants to have her parents back but they feel like they have already given her enough chances, so when she was raped and impregnated they were expecting it and think that she did it on purpose.

You can't show your weakness without support, She can't live her dreams because she has too many problems or she has a drug addiction which she can't show anyone because they will see her as more of a screw up. She dropped out of school. She doesn't know where she belongs in the world. Her faith that someone will help her out. She's falling from grace- she was in a good family but they disowned her.

3rd person point of view about dealing with someone's struggle with depression, addiction, lost faith and refusal to get help leading their suicide and how it's affecting the 3rd person

"Well, I couldn't tell you why she felt that way"
3rd person is telling people that she didn't know there was a serious issue with her friend...
    "She felt it everyday"
but the 3rd person really knows that her friend was persistently troubled inside. Maybe her friend was urging 3rd person to not tell anyone out of fear of judgement and stigmas, now 3rd person is feeling responsible for the consequences.

    "I couldn't help her"
The 3rd person is telling people she was unable to do something about it...
"I just watched her make the same mistakes, again."
but is feeling like she couldn't do enough to help.

    "What's wrong, what's wrong, now
    Too many, too many problems
Don't where she belongs, where she belongs"
The 3rd person is remembering all the times they asked what was wrong and the friend divulging all the problems they were going though. The 3rd person is unsure if her friend was better off alive or dead or what is going to happen to her friends soul, now that she's dead.

"She wants to go home, but nobody's home"
The suicidal friend wanted to reach Heaven, but 3rd person believes that's not where you go when you kill yourself.
"It's where she lies, broken inside."
The 3rd person is pointing out that her friend is in her grave without ever having fixed her problems.
"With no place to go, no place to go
    To dry her eyes
    Broken inside"
She can't go anywhere in her grave, just like where she was in life, invisible and rejected.

"Open your eyes and look outside"
3rd person is remembering the time she tried to tell her friend to cheer up and look at the Brightside and the big picture in life...
    "Find the reasons why"
and learn why things happened to her and why she's going down the wrong path.

    "You've been rejected"
3rd person knows that her friend may have tried seeking help for mental health and addiction and was denied. A sort of shout out to the lack of support services available.
"and now you can't find what you've left behind"
3rd person is saying that she believes her friend won't be able to find the peace in her soul and has left behind hope and chance for internal peace.

    "Be strong, be strong, now"
3rd person is remembering all the times she's witnessed her friend trying to harm herself and how she was pleading her friend to be strong and fight through her dark thoughts.

I think it's about a girl who's felt rejected and alone since childhood. She is feeling helpless and just wants to go home, have a safe place where she feels accepted but she has nowhere to go because even "home" never felt like home.

I feel like the song is about being alone. I like to think that when she sings 'she wants to go home but nobody's home' it means she wants to tell of her depression and sadness and her never ending problems, but alas nobody is there to listen

It's about a teenage girl who probably got pregnant, her mom stopped caring about because she might have thought "If she can decide to get pregnant and take on the burden of taking care of another person she can take care of herself" so the girl ran away then when she wanted to go back they wouldn't let her.

It's about a girl who has lots of problems, she doesn't know who she is exactly and is making a lot of bad decisions, and she can't tell her family or friends anything about it so she goes to her room and cries herself to sleep every night. She feels lost with nobody to understand and help her, fallen from grace

It's about a girl who was thrown out by her mother and was living in the streets for so long.

I think that its just about a girl who has a screwed up life and feels abandoned and lonely and there's nobody who can make her feel like she's worth something

I think that it's about a girl, who has problems with friends, love, and school, but she won't tell her family about it, because she's afraid of what they will think of her, so she keeps it in and always stays alone in her head, with no one to talk to and no one to comfort her.

I think It's about a girl who ran away from home and lost her self on the way. When she wants to call home her mother rejects her and she's back on her own again

To me this is about a girl who's life is totally screwed up and who's mom doesn't care. So to escape the pain she runs away. When a person is so broken, there's, just no fixing them.
