I always sort of thought it was a guy who's girlfriend died and he wants to go and be with her.
"No light will touch your face again" would be her dead.
"Days go on forever
But i have not left your side
We can chase the dark together
If you go then so will I" Would be him wanting to die with her.
"There is nothing left of you
I can see it in your eyes" There is nothing left of her, she's dead.
"Sing the anthem of the angels"
This could be them singing at her funneral or just saying that she's going up with the Angels.
"And say the last goodbye" This is him saying his good byes to her.
"Skin white as winter" Again, emphasising how dead she is.
"I keep holding onto you
But I can't bring you back to life" He can't get her out of his head, but he knows that he can't get her back.
I do not know if this is correct, this is just how I always viewed the song.
