When he says " it's funny how you enjoy your life when you're happy to be alive." They relate to how blessed we are for being alive in this world where so many die. Because this is a Christian band it probably has something to do with Jesus opening their eyes to appreciate what they have. In the last verse he gets depressed and is about to give up on life unless they " wake up to the sun" which is God.
