I think this song might have something to do about the 2nd coming of Jesus. He does talk about a girl a lot though, so it could be focused on that also.

This is just my opinion, but I think that it's about being in love with a girl who is a heartbreaker - 'the way that girl can break a heart... she knows it' that he believes can be better than she is. In the song he's encouraging her to be better 'Stop putting so much stock, in all of this stuff... live your life for those that you love' and telling her, essentially, that he's waiting for her to realize her better self - to become 'the one I'm waiting for.'
