Stupid in Love Lyrics

Let me tell you something
Never have i ever been a size ten in my whole life
I left the engine running
I just came to see
What you would do if i gave you a chance to make things right
So i made it even though katie
Told me that this...

OK so basically she has been in an abusive and adulterous relationship with a man. She has found out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her. And she is trying to keep herself together with him, but he carries on deceiving and two timing her and she has to stop. The first few lines, which refer to clothing size, see Rihanna imply that she has found the clothes of the woman that her boyfriend has been cheating on her with. The woman who has been seeing him, her clothes are size 10, but Rihanna is a different size, and this gives us the unknown side of Rihanna as a human lie detector. The remainder of the first verse describes how she will see if he’s going to feel sorry or apologize for what he has done, and she keeps the car running cause she knows deep down he’s not going to.

Then in the pre-chorus, Rihanna goes on to refer to Katy Perry. She and Rihanna are very good friends, but Katy was warning her not to make the big mistake of going out with this man, and eventually Rihanna second guesses that Katy was correct all along; that the person she was dating was two-sided, calculating and manipulative. The last few lines see her use an idiom that possibly refers to when she was attacked by Chris Brown back in 2009, 'Blood on your hands'. They both know what he did wrong, but he obviously isn't telling the truth. And that leaves her to question why he is showing a darker side.

In the chorus, Rihanna eventually realises she is in a sticky situation with him, and is being treated by this man as if she is naive. She loves him on the outside, but on the inside, she realises that she has been suffering physical, emotional, and mental abuse at his hands, and has to leave, before everything goes from bad to worse. She reinforces in the last couplet that she is no longer a naive person and may be slightly unable to speak up, but has mustered the inner courage to eventually put things right.

The second verse sees how her friends react when they see that she has nowhere to escape from this evil man. They call her an 'idiot' for not thinking clearly and putting up with his nonsense regardless. They try to convince her that she should leave before he takes it to the next level, but she refuses to listen. She thought she knew him, but after unearthing his nasty side, she was reeling quite badly.

The next pre-chorus tells that her new potential lover won't want to give it a go like she instantly did the last time. Next, her friends question her dumb behaviour for letting it go on and reinforcing her that he isn't the right person. The last bit of this pre-chorus explains likewise in the previous one, that he wouldn't be honest.

In the bridge, Rihanna explains that she is now trying to put the pieces back together, but her attempts fail every time he cheats or schemes. She reinforces the realisation of her stupidity for carrying on in a relationship that became damaged after his deceit came about. Next, she uses a very deep metaphor, 'The dunce cap is off', to explain that she is no longer stupid enough and that she is going to break up with him. Dunce caps are old-fashioned punishments for being stupid at school. Now he will eventually realise, after she has left, that as long as she is in the picture, they will no longer be happy together, because he kept manipulating, torturing and lying to her.

With The Opening Line Never Have I Ever Been A Size 10 In my Whole Life.It Suggests That She Found An Article Of Clothing That Is A Size 10 And It Couldnt Be Hers Because Thats Not Her Size. Which Is Why She Refers To Him cheating

She talks about her relationship with Chris Brown. In one part how she was talking to her BFF Katy Perry. "I made it anyway even though Katy told me this would be nothing but a waste of time and she was right!"
She talks about how she made a mistake by going back out with Chris!

Never have I ever , been a size ten in my whole life. It is unclear to me, in this opening line, whether the lyrics are willing the listener to allow a sense of female empowerment to be evoked. When looked at, in a deeper form, we imagine that the narrator is suggesting that she has never chosen to quarantine herself into visions of the ideal female, slim and consequently not a size 10. And as a result has been her own person. However, if looked at in a more contemporary light, a shallower take on these opening lines could see the reader insinuating that she has always been an ideal woman, her figure has never been particularly large and she is questioning the male correspondent as to why he is allowing her to objectify herself and not taking the bate.
