It's a sad song really. Watch the video. They are trapped. It's a cry to have the one that is to come to wash away the rain. Just remember that the one that is to come is the will seemingly have the answers--the black hole son. He has other names.

It's about the end of the world. The people are evil and destructing the world, disguising themselves as happy and smiling..watch the video! the black hole is the sun sucking them all away. Its even too late for honest men, when the end of the world comes..because people are the snakes..the evil..the devil. and he's praying 4 the "black hole" the sun..to come out and wash them all away or suck them up already. The song is about Satan/Lucifer/Devil and hell. We as souls in bodies live in Satans Hell. Satan is the sun and he is the snake that tempted adam and eve to leave the spiritual state of freedom and take a ride on the satan flesh embodied carnival of hell, giving up our spiritual life for a life of illusion and forgetting our heavenly home from where we came before incarnating in satans hell. Lucifer/the sun is a heavenly body and a fallen angel of light. He is the morning star/ Day star (not venus). In our current state as flesh embodied beings, we cannot perceive that the sun is a conscious creative being. We see him as a big ball of light and fire and that is why we are mislead, he is hidden in plain sight, and he is delighted in his ability to blind and decieve billions of incarnate souls. Fire is the devils only friend. To quote blind melon from the song paper scratcher "screaming at the sun, don't really know what he has done, he don't believe in the God and world as one, so he rambles through the trees, seedy we sleep beneath the trees." A nuclear bomb recreates satans burning fire on earth. When we die, we will be released from the flesh and return back to spirit we will have an opportunity to to see Satan for what he truly is, he is the sun, and he is a black hole of evil. A fallen angel of light who wants to trap spirits in his reality and make us forget about our previous heavenly spiritual reality at all costs. Satan created death, in order for him to create death, he had to create new bodies for our spirits to incarnate into, then he created death fear by putting a mental veil into our minds so that we thought we were the body and not the spirit that transcends the body. When embodied spirits live in fear they are easy to control, so satan reveals in his ability to control and manipulate embodied spirts like puppets. Why do the mystery religions like the freemasons and many other religions worship the sun? Because they are worshipping the devil, its satanic worship, not just the image of the sun, but the spiritual truth that the sun is the light bringer, he is the God of this solar system, but not the God of the Universe. Christ tried to tell people that we are living in the devils hell. This entire solar system is lucifers domain, it his solar system, all planets revolve around him, they are also conscious beings that are trapped in satans spell. While human beings are capable creators, lucifer is able to create entire races and realities, species and his ability to create is mind blowing, and from his lofty perspective a thousand years is a blink of the eye for him, but he can also take the form of a human and he is able to have power over time and space, he can navigate space and time, because he is an arch angel of light, a son/sun of the big God, which is the great central sun in the middle of each Galaxy. There are other stars that are also "suns of God" like the arch angel michael. One star who incarnated into satans world as Jesus Christ, He wasnt very happy to see that satan had blinded all of the incarnate souls to have a "wordly mindset" that made all the people forget about the spiritual truths prior to incarnating into an earthly body. So the sun is decieving the spirits in mankind to think that this reality is the true reality. Why does the sun/Satan/lucifer/devil do this? Because he wants to be the one and only, he wants to decieve people to think that he is the God of all the cosmos, when in all truth, he is a liar. The is why its important to "be in this world but not of it" and to know that every time you look at the sun, you are looking at satan/the devil/lucifer. Sure he may feed you and sustain you in your flesh body, but that is only so that you may be his prisoner. Most people will live theyre entire life and not realize that they are living in satans hell and that satan is the sun. On the positive side, other stars in the galaxy are much more full of love and the light that they shine is kind and when you get back into your spirit body after death, you will be able to fly away from this solar system of hell and go to another solar system that would not decieve you and would not be filled with war and death. Satan uses war like how people make dogs fight, he gets a kick out of watching embodied spirits fight and suffer the miseries of war, to him its like playing chess or some real time strategy game, except that people suffer for lifetimes because of the wicked nature of his game playing.

I think it means that he doesnt want any more stupid people on the planet that take the punishment from the authority and the authority to go away(religion, government,etc...)and the people that dont care about things but their stupid lives and he just wants all of it to go away to a peaceful world a free world, with no government, religion, war, and stupidness

What I like about the song is that you can say what ever you think of it and if someone else says somethin' else you don't feel stupid 'cause you know how many interpretations of this their are... I know 4 right off the back of my hand

I have followed the singer since my boyhood. I saw Soundgarten in the totally fucking godhead concert in seattle.
The singer has had a long term self and God personal accountability lament embedded in his wonderful songs. Hinting at his lost soul and knowing it, or sensing that the wicked world had left its wounds on him at the least.
I have a hunch this song is about the destruction of the world, and also perhaps the coming of the antichrist to finally finish the abuse (come on kill us already damit! kind of thing).
I'm going to post the lyrics and note along with it the clues I think I see in the piece.

Its easy to soften the heaven/hell figures by replacing either with good vs darkness in this song. Honest men vs snakes whatever the intensity of the metaphor.

i feel it in fact this song is about a sexual reference. yes the top rated interpretation is correct. however, here is where mine deviates. "Kurt Cobain killed himself close to the release of this song. i feel as if the phrase no one sings like you anymore refers to kurts absence, and that much of the sexual reference has to do with the unfaithful behavior of courtney love. there were problems in the twos relationship and i belive this song reflects the months leading up to kurts suicide."

It is a lovely moody song that i can let a lot out to. I would say all good songs do allow a lot of interpretations, but i feel the basic theme to be the dark night of the soul, corresponding to the image of what the ancients called a black sun but we would refer to as an eclipse. i do love songs that speak of nature and images like rain, friends, sun to covey feelings. Sometimes when i have expericenced a lot of heartbreak, i do feel like i would just like the rain to wash away the pain. Whether it is betrayal or losing a friend, or some tough situation sometimes we just want to hide away till the sun comes out again in our lives, and the hurt is eased.

Hasn't anyone heard of Psilocybin? This song is about a specific drug. Eat a black cap and see what it does to your eyes and thoughts. That's partly the reason music was written first, then lyrics. Anything written on a mushroom is poetic and prophetic.

My name is Mitch and I have recently been investigating the large scale brainwashing of American citizens through music, media and other sources. Here is a crazy conspiracy theory I thought up. Tell me if it sounds bogus, even though its true... Rockband has this song BLACK HOLE SUN. The power of words are more powerful than we think. The game has you sing these lyrics which are predominantly apocalyptic, asking for drought, heat, pain, sorrow, suffering, etc. This game has sold millions and it may be a very small possibility but I'm sticking to this mass delusional type idea my mind has thought up. Satan, the Devil, Michael, Lucifer, MASTER of MUSIC. cast out of heaven because of his pride. He was an angel, not just an angel, but a musical angel.... Idk maybe I'm nuts but I think I use logic about 85% of this interpretation thank you and goodnite.
