he's saying his dirty little secret is his demon he's facing. we all have our demons in life whether it be everyday things or friends. but in my point of view it translates how people can go through life being pushed around. and they keep that thing a secret.

The impression I always got--and this could be completely wrong--was that the singer of the song had had a previous relationship derailed by outside interference. Now he's in a new relationship and he's doing everything he can to keep it under wraps, for fear that if it comes out she'll be just another regret. Hence the line about "who has to know?" Answer: no one but them.

I was told by someone that its about a guy sleeping with a ugly girl.. he doesn't care about her.. she just serves a purpose .. I hope this isn't truely what the song is about cause I like it ...

Also, I'm very pro-gay rights, so it's something that comes to mind, and I always look to see if songs fit from homosexual point of view.

I've always (well, not always, because I was like 8 when I first heard this song, but now that I'm intelligent enough to not take songs super literally, and whatnot.) thought this song was about a boy, while dating a girl, dating a boy behind her back (or vice versa, with a girl dating another girl behind her boyfriends back. I don't discriminate ;3 Although, for simplicity's sake, I'll refer to it as a boy's point of view.)

Obviously, in modern day society, homosexuality is widely considered wrong.

he feels like he's wasting his time with the girl, because he could be spending it with his beau.

I think this a (totally awkward) reference to anal sex being painful for the receiver.

I think it's about someone who has a bf/gr and is seeing sum1 else but they're smart and gunna keep it a secret.

Videos are just somebody's way of marketing a song, not necessarily what the song was written about. Frankly I believe it is about him being involved with a woman he wants to keep secret. Speaking as the other woman, the man I am involved with does just what he describes in the lyrics... go around a time or two Just to waste my time with you. He'll drive around his neighborhood multiple times just so that he can waste time so he can continue to talk to me. I'm his dirty little secret and this is my ringback tone for him.

I think This song is about a guy wanting to break up with a girl because he doesn’t like her anymore, but is just too afraid to tell her that he wants to break up, so he just keeps it his dirty little secret. The line “…just to waste my time with you" proves that he doesn’t like her, but doesn’t want to suffer the consequences of telling her that he wants to break up, or is too afraid.

The song Dirty Little Secret explains the book Post Secret...written by Frank Warren. If you watch the music video, it has random statements, secrets, on note cards/post cards. The song Dirty Little Secret is talking about how I guess he is talking about his secret...maybe he sent in one to post secret, and he is trusting that his secret with stay anonymous. This is what my cousin told me. If you just read the book Post Secret, then you will understand.

Ok what the heck? Why do most people interpret this song as a guy dating a girl kind of thing and keeping secrets from each other. Look titles can be decieving. The way I interpret the song (after watching the video)just from this one line "I'll keep you my Dirty little secret" Seeing as there holding postcards about there secrets and stuff like for example a mate is holding up a postcard saying "I pee in the sink" Isn't that a little awkward and dirty? So of course you'd want to keep it a secret. People keep secrets of things there ashamed of or things they keep pent up. Watch the video it'll make sense.

This is basically what the guy I was seeing said to me. "don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret". This is about cheating on someone or being with someone that you shouldn't be with.

I think that it's about a guy or a girl who's unpopular but is in love with a popular girl and they both are crazily in love but if anyone finds out the entire thing will be too annoying to handle and they won't be able to take it...
Or It could be like Romeo and Juliet where If anyone finds out they're both screwed... lol
