Vienna Lyrics
We smile for the casual closure capturing
There goes the downpour
Here goes my fare thee well
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach...

Billy joel has a song called Vienna too and his Vienna is the metaphor for " a person's whole life" could it also mean the same with this song?

I know there's a lot of congestion about the Vienna portion but I'll get there in a second. First off its a relationship that's falling apset. And as much as they try to save it he's just too far out of the relationship to even try anymore, in theory he's exhausted emotionally hence "I'm already gone." Now i agree that they want to try again in 5-10 years but he needs space from her for a while and he's trying to show its not hurting him as much as it is ("this is my game face."). Now as to vienna, I think they went to Vienna to try to figure it out and the last line of the song is just a very sarcastic kind of so THIS is Vienna like he expected to fix things and it ended up becoming a state of emotional dismay and he will forever remember that feeling as Vienna. And the maverick is tricky as well, one definition I found was that its a us missile and maybe she said something that kind of hit him like a missle or just the whole situation is a missile to his emotions sending him shattering into a million pieces. Just my thoughts :)

To me this song is about the saddness of leaving someone behind while still having the feeling that you want to say sorry. The repeated "There's really no way to reach me, 'Cause I'm already gone" means that his fellings can't be changed. The line "Maybe in five or ten yours and mine will meet again, Straighten this whole thing out" iplies that maybe, while he doesn't believe they themselves can fix the differences between them, their desendents can.

This is a heart-breaking song about saying goodbye to someone. He gets on the train and goes. He's saying maybe in the distant future we'll see each other, but for now I'm leaving.
