This song is about how she tries to be someone she's not so that she's accepted, but when she's around the subject of the song be it a boy or a friend, I'm not sure), she's herself and she's completely comfortable with it, but she goes back to being the fake her around others. Quite a contradiction to a song earlier on the album, Complicated.
