Evanescence: End of the Dream Meaning

Song Released: 2011

End of the Dream Lyrics

I found a grave
Brushed off the face
Felt your light
and I remember why I know this place

I found a girl
Closing her eyes
One last time
And I wonder if she dreams like me

As much as it hurts,
Ain't it wonderful to feel?
So go on...

    I found a grave
    Brushed of the face
    Felt your light
I remember why I know this place

she's singing about finding the grave of her dead sister,Bonnie
    I found a bird
    Closing her eyes
    One last time
And I wonder if she dreams like me

the bird is bonnie from the afterlife. she wonders what her life would have been like.

    as much as it hurts
    ain't it wonderful to feel?
so go on and break your wings
    follow your heart
    till it bleeds
as we run towards the end of the dream

This song is both morbid and inspiring. I think it's her encouraging people to feel and follow they're feelings, because death could come any time and then you'd've lost the chance.

    I found a grave
    Brushed off the face
    Felt your light
and I remember why I know this place
    ---------------
I think this verse means that Amy was wandering aimlessly, but stumbled upon a loved one's grave, but didn't know how she got there. So she brushed off the face of it, and read the name, but felt that person's prescence. Then she remembers why she was there.(Pretty self explanatory)
    ----------------
    I found a bird
    Closing her eyes
    One last time
And I wonder if she dreamed like me
    -----------------
She found a dying bird, and wonders if she lived her life to the fullest before her time ran out.
    ---------------
    As much as it hurts,
    Ain't it wonderful to feel?
So go on and break your wings
    Follow your heart
    Till it bleeds
As we run towards the end of the dream
    --------------------
Amy thinks that it's bad to feel numb when something tragic happens, and is thankful to have feelings, even though it sometimes hurts terribly. She's telling someone to believe in themselves, and to follow their heart, not other people.
    ------------
Why must we fall apart to understand how to fly?
    I will find a way
    Even without wings
    Follow your heart
    Till it bleeds
As we run towards the end of the dream

    ---------------
Sometimes, to understand things, it breaks you down physically and emotionally. She is telling them to push themself back up and to believe in yourself. Live in your dream.
    -----------------

    Follow your heart
    Till it bleeds
And we've come to the end of the dream
    --------------------
If you truly follow your heart, you'll be at the end of your dream, which has kept you safe and warm. Basically, if you follow yourself and not other people, you don't have to dream about a better life, and if you follow your heart, you come to the end of the dream, putting you back in the real world, ready.
