Harry Styles: Two Ghosts Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Two Ghosts Lyrics
Same white shirt, couple more tattoos
But it's not you and it's not me
Tastes so sweet, looks so real
Sounds like something that I used to feel
But I can't touch what I see
We're not who we used to be
We're...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think this is about Louis and their relationship, whatever that was. It’s about looking back on how they were together and where and who they are now. When you’re a teenager, everything is so intense and deep and as you get older, feelings change and things get more complicated. I believe that they loved one another deeply and still do, but on a different level now and whilst Harry remembers how alive and exciting it was, he also realises that they’ve both changed, they’ve grown up and perhaps a little apart, but they’ll always have feelings for one another and I think they cherish the closeness they once had and still find solace in each other when they need someone.

#2 top rated interpretation:LETS DISCUSS THE FACT THAT IT WAS WRITTEN IN 2013 FOR ONE DIRECTION. It was originally meant to be a one direction song but according to Harry the lyrics got way too personal. The song is about an intense heartbreak and all I’m gonna say is that it doesn’t sound like a short fling was the cause of that heartbreak.....

#3 top rated interpretation:Ok, I know everyone thinks this song is about Taylor Swift, but us Larries pick up on the subtlest hints.
Sure, the first verse:
'Same lips red, same eyes blue.'
seems like it refers to Taylor. But lets not forget that Louis has blue eyes too.
'Same white shirt, couple more tattoos.'
Ok, now how does this refer to Taylor? Are you guys blind?
Later in the song, the song refers to when Larry lived together.
'Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat.'
The only people Harry has admitted to have loved are the members of 1D.
'My first real crush was Louis Tomlinson.'
'Are you and Louis dating? Yep.'
'I'm in love with Lou and all HIS little things.'
LARRY IS REAL AND THAT'S THE TEA :)

"same lips red same eyes blue" ,this is about taylor and "same white shirt couple more tattoos"is a line where harry is talking about himself. This follows with the line "it's not you and it's not me",the meaning is that ,it's not taylor and it's not harry himself.so i personally think it's about taylor swift but "sweet creature" by Harry styles is definitely about Louis Tomlinson.

The song is about Taylor swift. He’s remembering their relationship and talking about what it’s like now. “Same lips red same eyes blue same white shirt couple more tattoos” is a reference to Style by Taylor Swift. He says “We’re not who we used to be” because he’s saying they’ve changed and that their relationship is over. He basically implies they can’t get back together because of how different they are in the whole song.

everything has actually already been said in the interpretations, but i wanted to add one more thing... the line "we're just two ghosts swimming in a glass half empty" doesn't let me go... because a half-empty glass is always a If pessimism is seen, I interpret it in such a way that the two people do not see a future together (for various reasons) because they are not allowed to, for example...
yeah thats it :) -

I think this song is about Harry’s relationship with Louis Tomlinson. Who has blue eyes and a couple more tattoos? Louis and in the song it says “telling stories we already told cause we don’t say what we really mean” which is like he’s referring to when they told the same things about them not being together but that they don’t really mean that which basically means that they were in a relationship together and there is also more references to Larry in the song

"Same lips red" - can be about every person
"Same eyes blue"- Can be about Taylor Swift
"Same white shirt, couple more tattoos"- Taylor Swift doesn't have tattos and always use dresses. Now think about it. Xx

This song gives me way too many Larry vibes. When Harry sang it on X-factor and Louis was almost in tears. Now that Harry and Louis are so different from who they were, I just makes sense. I just can't stop thinking about them when I listen to this song.

i love this article because i had no idea what this song meant until now. i have been a HUGE Larry fan since the beginning and hearing about the meaning to this song makes me so happy but also so sad. do you think they still stay in touch? do you think they still talk to each other behind the cameras? please let me know what you think

A few of these interpretations suggest that this is about Haylor, but not only did Harry straight denies this with Nick Grimshaw like the top rated reply says, but anyone who has ever fallen deeply in love, whether it be friendship or romance, broken up that relationship and then grown apart from that past partner can notice, there are small details in this song that heavily show this isn't about a fling.
The first line that pops out to me proving the deep rooted pain behind this song, is:
"THE fridge light washes this room white"
referring the the fridge as a known object to both parties, with the word 'the' is the hard drive for me. When a friend visits, it's my fridge, but 'the' simulates that its the mutual fridge, like the milk is in the fridge, not my fridge. This may seem like a reach for many people who have never experienced moving in with someone other than their parents, but before my fiance moved in, it was just my fridge, and now it's ours, aka the fridge of the house, that we share. 'The' and the way its sung makes me believe this song is about someone Harry used to once live with, or who visited very frequently.
Now, 'the fridge' and the fact he probably lived with said partner isn't the only reason I believe this song is about Louis, the very obvious lines:
"Same lips red, same eyes blue
Same white shirt, couple more tattoos"
and to those who think this song is about Taylor, I have to chuckle. The first stanza, okay sure could go both ways. But I'm sorry, I didn't know Taylor wore a white shirt at every other concert with a sh*t ton of tattoos but aight pop off with your opinion. Look at any Midnight Memories+ concert photos, and Louis wears only black, grey or white. The knowing about the added tattoos is something that Harry should/would know about Louis considering the amount of time they spent together as a band, let alone as anything more and what he had before the Hiatus and what he has added since. Taylor doesn't even have tattoos, or if she does they are not noticeable.
The last case I would like to make is:
"I'm just trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat"
Harry has never stated publicly that he's loved anyone specifically, except for Louis and his bandmates. For Louis, whether that is platonic or something more is up to your personal beliefs. Experiencing heartbreak, true heartbreak is called that for a reason. You feel physical pain in your chest when losing a loved one, and after the band's falling out, losing Louis and all his best friends could very well be a logical cause for heartbreak, and therefore over the years I can see how Harry would be trying to remember a 'heartbeat' without pain after losing those most important to him. You wouldn't experience pain in losing those you don't love or care about deeply, and if the loss was heavy enough to cause a feeling of disruption in emotion and create a sensation of numbness to your own heartbeat, then I'm sorry if you're ignorant enough to think that line is about his one-month "relationship" (with heavy quotations) with Taylor and not about having a falling out with his best friends of 5+ years and/or his love Lou.
As stated by Harry himself,
"My first real crush was Louis Tomlinson"
I rest my case. Screw Haylor, this song is so simple but has so much pain and meaning behind it that people who have been through a true heartbreak with love or deep rooted friendships can understand and feel, that I don't expect anyone who actually think Taylor and Harry were in love to understand, because that wasn't love children, that was media clout.
If this song doesn't make you feel literal, excruciating, tear drawing pain in your chest.. If this song doesn't make you feel winded and like it's hard to breathe, then I don't believe you've interpreted it, or understood it to it's core.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. -
"Tongue-tied like we've never known
Telling those stories we already told
'Cause we don't say what we really mean."
I think this part is about how Louis and Harry would have to say the same answers in interviews rather than saying what they actually wanted to say (about their friend/relationship) because management didn't want them to. -
hi guys just an fyi this isn't haylor- he wrote this song 4 years after they "broke up", while taylor wrote her songs and acted out (rudely lol) about 1 year or 2 years later.

This song seems to be about a relationship that used to have a bright spark, but overtime, they lost what they had.
"same lips red, same eyes blue"
this shows how everything is the same as how it was on the outside but on the inside it's completely different they aren't "who they used to be". the relationship has fizzed out even though they try to grasp hold of what little they have left "trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat".
the relationship is awkward ("tongue tied like we've never known...telling the stories we already told") and even though they try, the relationship won't go back to how it was because they aren't who they used to be and they are now two strangers.
Please don't make everything Harry does Larry related, just appreciate his work! :) -
