Because of You Lyrics

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did, when
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way
To never let it get that far

Because of you
I never...

I know this isn't what Clarkson wrote the song about, but I've always seen this song as a positive song.
It seems to me like she has finally met someone who makes her life worth living.
Because of you, I never stray too far from the sidewalk
e.g. Now that I have met you I value my life more and am more careful.

    I don't know, just an idea :)

Stupid haters...speak again when your parents are divorced. And plus, parents shouldn't be divorced. It mentally and emotionally hurts the children. No offense, but it is the parents' fault if they are not liked by their children! They should've though about the consequences.

This song really upsets me. Our Lord says to honor our parents, and you surely didn't honor yours. I too come from a dysfunctional family, and I'm changing that every day, with God's help!!! It doesn't matter how we're treated, we all have a choice to make in life, and it's surely not slandering a parent for the whole world to hear!! I too am a victim of abuse, but I would never ever make a degrading song of my mother or father. I know your hurt, and you made it very clear!!! you two need to forgive each other NOW!!!! You both need to ask our Lord for forgiveness. He does forgive you know!!!

This is what I thought it was about from watching the video and from my experiences:
A little girl with an emotionally abusive father who never lets her know that he loves her and then leaves. After he left the girl would wait for him to write her a letter but it never happened. This girl is very hurt and afraid to love or trust others. When she grows up she finds herself in the same position as her mom had been in and realizes what is happening and fixes it. In the end the family has a group hug to show that they are now happy. This video made me cry because my dad is verbally abusive to my whole family and me and my siblings have had a hard life. The video basically shows what my parents fights look like. Anywats I am now 15 and I am depressed and I cant imagine ever having a boyfriend because I dont trust guys enough to want to be with them, also I rarely tell people I love them because i'm scared of loving people, I have no real friends at school, and I've never told an adult about my dad because I dont feel like I can trust them. I honestly dont know what to do about the problem and I have a 1 year old brother.

I think it means she was in an abusive relationship (with a boyfriend, a parent, etc.) or that her relationship or family was otherwise really hurtful and left her with a bad legacy, so now because of them, she "is afraid".

The video to this song always makes me cry. I come from a divorced home & so I can really relate to her memories. I too vowed not to ever get a divorce. However, I did not choose my 1st husband wisely: as I should have: & he ended up divorcing me. Fortunately though, no offspring resulted. I married my 2nd husband about 3 & 1/2 years later. What makes me cry so much is that we don't have a very good marriage & fight a lot, like the way the video begins with Kelly & her husband. My 2nd husband suffers a very subtle, but very REAL mental disorder. So, as it has been previously been observed that she is 'stuck' in her situation, I too feel stuck in my situation.

This is not really about the video. My parents seperated when i was 7.It was horrible. they been seperated for 5 years. and i have a half brother and sister, their dad left them for 10 years without telling them. when my sister found out she cryed every night. i did the same. when my parents seperated it happened right in front of me and my mom said 'thats it we are through' and then my dad left.now im 12 and it still torchers me today. my only wish is for my family together and my mom says that it will never happen but i nevered stopped beliving. now today my dad dont even play with me or my baby brother he is 3. the only ones who play with him is my step-brother and my self.

i think this video is about when kelly was little and her self held he hand and brought her to the kitchen and all that. showed he what was happening. and her mom shut the door on her and started crying.

I can totally relate to this song. My parents got divorced when I was in 2nd grade and my brother was in pre k. I feel like every child after the divorce has a piece pulled out of their heart. Often they loose a lot o confidence because they don't have stability. Hence the lyric my heart can't possibly break when it wasn't even whole to start with. These kids often take heart breaks even harder because it's making the whole in their heart even larger. Post if you agree with this or feel strongly about it it's something many feel.

After watching the video, this became clear. It's very simple after seeing the video.

In the video, Kelly and her husband are fighting. He is about to throw a picture frame when time stops, and she has time to rethink. She goes to her mirror and see's herself as a child. Her child self shows her the horrible memories as a child that her parents left with her. Her parents got divorced, leaving a permanent effect on Kelly. Now, after looking back at this, Kelly takes the picture frame and puts it back and makes up with her husband. Why? Because of her parents. She's afraid she is going to ruin her child's life if she gets a divorce. She is afraid to get a divorce or start a fight. That's why it shows the child come out of her room and see what's going on.

If you look at the lyrics, you'll see that this helps what I'm explaining.
"I will not make the same mistake that you did" - meaning that she will not get a divorce and let her child go through misery.
She says, "I'm forced to fake a smile, a laugh, every day of my life, my heart can't possible break if it wasn't even whole to start with"
This means that she has to fake loving her husband and make sure nothing goes wrong just for her child. She's in the footsteps of her parents when they were going through hard times, but Kelly knows how much it will hurt the child's life. When it says her heart can't break, she means that there was no true love to begin with, but she can't go back now that she has a child.
    "I watched you die
I heard you cry every night in your sleep
    I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
    You just saw your pain"
Kelly is talking about how her parents were selfish during their divorce, leaving Kelly scarred.
"And now I cry in the middle of the night
    For the same damn thing"
Kelly is in the same situation and she is trying to cope with it but she knows divorce is not an option since she can't make the same mistake her parents made.

That's all. Hope I explained it well.

I believe the song is about what kelly clarkson went thru as in a divorce and feeling alone depressed and betrayed but its more than that this song really spoke to my heart because when i first heard it it was when my parents of a 20 year marriage got divorce and i was getting bullyed and my father abused me and i have been trying to kill myself and i almost did one time but when i heard the song i went back to when i had th big house everything i wanted a beautyiful life but inside it my parents fought everyday argueing it just broke my heart and i have been bullyed and betrayed and abused since i was 5 i just been thru so much but now i have a boyfriend how its hard to trust because of everything i been thru and i lost my house my long hair my family even my God i am a christian too but when i heard it i cried my heart out and i am only 14 years old and i am going thru this but now i am getting better and i feel alittle better and my boyfriend understands if kelly didnt make this song i would be lost ....

I really think I understand this. Basically, she starts to fight with her husband in the beginning, and then when he's about to ruin their relationship, she freezes time in a flashback to her child memories, and she goes to look that when her mom divorced her father and he left, he died, and her mom was miserable and her life was ruined. Then she decided to go back and not make the same stupid mistake and ruin her child's life and save their relationship by putting the picture back and hug him at the end. She's in a stuck situation.

I think it's,like everybody has said, Kelly's parents went and got divorced, and now she's afraid of being in a relationship and trusting people because she doesn't want to be hurt and go through what her parents did...like she says "I learned to Play on the safe side so I don't get hurt" I believe she is referencing back to her parents divorce and I believe she doesn't want to be hurt like her family was...but anyways everybody has their own interpretations so it might mean something different for you.
