Kelly Clarkson: Because of You Meaning
Song Released: 2005
Because of You Lyrics
I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did, when
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way
To never let it get that far
Because of you
I never...

It's about Kelly always fighting with her husband because her dad was an abusive JERK who didn't care about his family. He made her feel afraid and empty inside and her mom would try 2 lean on her."I was so young you should have known better than to lean on me".
So because of her dad she tries to push away her husband in fear of getting hurt by him too. But at the end of the song she realizes she doesn't want to make his mistakes so she makes up with her husband. -

This song makes me cry every time I hear it because it reflects my life in an way. my parents broke up some years ago when I was six years old, and then they had such a horrible fight and argued about anything.
The worst thing was my mother, who never really cared about my feelings, but always tried to make my father suffer, no matter what effect it had on me. because of these years it is hard for me to let anybody into my heart. I don't want to get hurt again. If you trust someone and you love that person and suddenly this person hurts you, then you close your heart and stay alone with the only person who won't hurt you: yourself. -
It's about her father moving out on her at age 6.
Her mother's heart had misery and couldn't open up and never loved again and had to lean on Kelly.
Kelly married this guy and has a child and she has the same fights as her parents did then and doesn't want her daughter to go through the same hard childhood with out a dad there for her.
Kelly's scared that history repeats itself, even though she doesn't want it to. -
I honestly this song is about the hardships that Kelly want through as a child and how that affected her. She's basically explaining how she's living her life around her past experiences and how if she has children in the future she wouldn't want them to go through what she went through.

The song sounds so much like my life. I'm from a broken home. my dad beat my mom to the point she didn't care anymore. They would do this in front of us. It makes it hard to trust people.

Video 1 {solo}: Her dad beat her mom & neglected her. She always wanted attention his attention but he just left one one day, and she grows up watch her mom (who's life has been ruined by her dad) develop addictions and experience depressions. So, now as an adult she's afraid to let her man leave her because she doesn't want to become her mom.
Video 2 {with Reba McEntire}: Kelly is with a man who beats her & cheats on her. She confides in Reba (a co-worker at the place they sing at). Reba is conflicted on whether or not to say anything to anyone about what going on. He forces her to act like nothing is wrong & she's afraid to say anything or to leave him because even though he beats her, he still makes her fell safe. -
This song is about a divorced mom leaning on her daughter for support during a divorce so the girl knows all the pain that comes with love and none of the good stuff. She doesn't want to love someone so that would happen to her. When you have to comfort someone against this kind of pain you brace yourself against whatever brings it so she avoids love and relationships. Kelly's story of her broken home...

When I first heard this song, it reminded me of growing up with an abusive parent. The second verse in particular paints a picture of the kind of "walking on eggshells" lifestyle of people in an abusive relationship. The third verse could be more about the other parent who has to live with the abuse going on in their home.
The narrator can't trust anyone in her life because she couldn't trust the people who were supposed to love her most: her parents. -
I think this song is about how she has been hurt in the past by someone she loves and now she's afraid to put herself out there again and love at the risk of being hurt. oh well chances are you will deal with it.

Broken home. Reminds me of my dad and his ability to not show emotion.

If you listen closely to the lyrics, then it is apparent that it relates most the relationship between a father and a daughter.....the chorus..implies that the father tried his best to make sure his daughter was alright and safe, but never taught her to take risks, never "stray away from the sidewalk." for this reason, she could never take risks, never learn to trust herself even if she did. This is why, she could not find someone she could fully trust and now she is ashamed because her life is empty, i.e., without a guy. Psychologically speaking, the relationship that the daughter had with her father is a precursor to the relationship she will seek in her love life... Her dad performed all the societal obligations of being a father like protection and success, but deprived her of the basic things in life like love, care, concern and trust. and because of him, trust and love is lacking in the daughters life, even now when she is an adult.

I think that the song is about a young girl seeing the deteriation of her family. Her father left and her mother was broken hearted, it left the young girl mentaly scared and then when she is older she has an argument with a lover and remembers what happened when she was younger ie the arguments and fights and doesn't want that to happen to her family "I will not make the same mistakes that you did"
