   I do agree that is sounds like a divorce or a broken home. But intentionally, I thought it was about a guy who knew he had AIDS but broke down and fell in love, and got in a relationship anyway. He didn't tell her at first but when he did, he is very to himself, and not allowing other people in. He knew he was dying but did not care about anyone but himself.
   
   Now he is hurt because he knows he's dying and he let her into his life. She tried to be there for him. It taught her to play it safe, not to let people in either, but then she realizes she has it too, and is going through the same thing.
   
   I don't if this is right, but once I listened to it, I first thought about breakups, then about divorce, then I read deaper into and thought of this.

   I agree, this song is definitely because of a mom not allowing to show her daughter the healing powers of love, only the destructive powers of it, and now she doesnt know "how to let anyone else in"

   I think this song is about the mom being bad hurt from the death of her husband and the child grew up seeing what love did to her mom. Maybe the mom turned away from life after the death and nothing the child said or did could make her come completely "back" even though she spent her life trying.

   I love Kelly and this song is so awesome.
   
   In an article Kelly said 'Because Of You' isn't about breakups, it's about her family. Kelly wrote this when she was 16 because her friend was having a hard time with her family and Kelly was the same and could relate to her friends troubles.
   
   As much as it seems to be about a guy, it's actually not. It is about growing up in a broken home.
