Story of My Life Lyrics
Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain
I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days
She told me in the morning she don't feel the same about us in her bones
It seems to me that when I die...

Guys, this song is about the story of our lives. Who we are. I believe the "her" they are referring to are their stories, memories, their pasts. They are remembering "their story", and giving it hope and thinking about it. Living in the past. Missing people, thinking of people. They're telling their live's story, and referring to it as a her.

I think that this song is about a boy. And this boy is just rejected over and over and he is just saying they have turned into "the story of my life" if you know what I mean.
OK guys well I hope this helped!!! :)

It's not about a girl at all. The story that is being told just represents all 5 of their feelings in one way. They each miss someone in their life that they are far from. They end up breaking their heart. They would do anything for that person. They wish that they could have just a moment in time frozen to enjoy that moment again. To re-live it.

at first i thought it was about love between a boy and a girl but when music video realised it shows something else i mean peopole love about their familly.
I'm very confused here. Everyone talks about a relationship with a girl or girls that never go far and always fails no matter what, but then what do all the people frozen represent. I see men, women, girls, boys all frozen in time. So with being surrounded by all this frozen life, where does the girl fit in the equation?

if you listen to the lyrics closely, its like the song is dedicated to us directioners like, "written on these walls are the colours that i cant change", our posters in our rooms on our walls are different colours and "i spend her love until shes broke inside", they use our love to an advantage where they can't take anymore from us.

I believe esp after seeing the video that the girl they are singing about is a different one for each of them. Harry is taking about his mom, Zayne is talking about his little sister, Niall is talking about his grandmother and mom it seems. Basically each member is rmieferring to a very important woman in their lives that they love and miss so much they would do anything to keep her safe.

The story is about all of us, all our loves and relationships with our parents, children brothers, sisters, friends, and lovers.
We all give each other hope and love deeply but that love hurts and kills hope too.
Our love we have for our mums.... she does everything for us. Her love is endless and we give her hope, and then we hurt her when we don't try hard enough.
We love our lovers and we worry that their love is not returned. We are filled with love, but we still feel empty. We feel empty because if we loved unconditionally, then that love we feel for someone should be enough, if we know that they are happy.

I am pretty confused on this song...the music video showed how much they missed their families, and from the previous comments, people assume it's about their love life. but not every song is about one's love life. my best friend hates this band, but i love them, so much she says that they never know what theyre singing about. but she is just looking for an excuse to hate them, so i dont really listen or ask for her opinion when it comes to them. i think it's about missing their families and there is no way to change their past and sometimes i can be bad at finding meanings to songs but i feel confident about this song.

I think it's about a boy who is upset and slightly depressed bc he loves someone and most people say it's about how a girl dosent love him back but really I feel like it's about a depressive girl who is afraid to love hence the lyric -spend her love until shes broke inside-

For me this song is about a guy, who has fallen for a girl but after time he feel's love for her but she doesn't feel the same and leaves, its not the first time this has happened to him.... so its the repeat "the story of his life"
1 His heart is open and he has given it but been hurt several times by girls hence the words will be "written on his stone"
2 He spent all her love (she is now ready to move on or has had her fun/doesn't look at him like that.
3 Writing on the walls are colors he cant change, the writings on the wall and he knows it but cant stop how he feels
4 Running after you is like chasing the clouds = he wants and chases the girl but never gets her and its impossible
A really sad song, Ive been there !!

At first I actually had this feeling it was about Directioners. "The story of my life" is basically what has happened from X-Factor to now. "I take her home," as in Take Me Home. "I drive all night," as in Up All Night. "To keep her warm," 'her' is us, and 'to keep her warm' is to keep us happy. "And time is frozen," I can't figure that one out. "I give her hope," we all know the boys are our heroes and this could be for the girls who are struggling with things and rely on them and their music to make them feel better. "I spend her love, until she's broke inside," I can't figure this one out either.
Anyways, then I started to analyze the song more and I came to the conclusion that that last interpretation was wrong, so this is what I came up with:
There's a lot of people saying the song is about a guy who loves too much and the girl never ends up feeling the same, but I don't quite think that's it. I think it's about a guy who when he falls in love, he makes a lot of mistakes. "The story of my life, I take her home, I drive all night to keep her warm, and time is frozen" basically means that he wishes that specific moment would freeze so that he could be there forever and not have to make another mistake (if you catch my drift). "The story of my life, I give her hope, I spend her love until she's broke inside" means that she falls for him and trusts him but when he 'spends her love' -- which basically means that he wastes her love -- she's 'broke inside,' which means she's hurt.
I might be wrong, but yeah. That's what I came up with!

i believe that they are not all singing about one relationship of 2 people... rather they are with their family in all pictures so how do you come about them singing about a relationship? When Harry says time is frozen and in all the pictures all of their family is frozen except them what d you predict that means? I can also say that songs are like paintings(i know its dramatic but just stick with me) when an artist paints or draws or whatever they have a specific meaning why or what they are referring to, but the person who sees the art may or may not know what it means, so interpreting into her/his own words he/she understands from her/his knowledge instead of the artist. For example in a song i heard someone wrote it about her ex husband and that she hopes he carries on life without her, but the singer thought of her kids when she heard this song so the video has her kids in it and what she thought of the song. So this song could mean many things depending on whos listening to it.

I think its like about its about boy that is trying to tell a girl who doesn't believe that much in love and is confused about being in a relationship with him about the story of his life which was full of love and warmth so that she knows he could treat her right because he has been loved and nurtured from the beginning but she keeps giving him the cold shoulder since she doesn't know what to do even though he is so in love with her and she keeps rejecting him
anonymous Nov 6th, 2013 11:14am report
"I drive all night to keep her warm" symbolizes him putting in so much effort and trying so hard just to make her happy. "Time is frozen," if you think about it, relates back to the previous line. He's driving on, forever, but to no avail, because no matter how hard he tries to 'keep her warm,' she's still frozen.
