One Direction: Story of My Life Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Story of My Life Lyrics
Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain
I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days
[Liam]
She told me in the morning she don't feel the same about us in her bones
It seems to me that when I die...
-
I think it's about a boy who is upset and slightly depressed bc he loves someone and most people say it's about how a girl dosent love him back but really I feel like it's about a depressive girl who is afraid to love hence the lyric -spend her love until shes broke inside-
-
For me this song is about a guy, who has fallen for a girl but after time he feel's love for her but she doesn't feel the same and leaves, its not the first time this has happened to him.... so its the repeat "the story of his life"
1 His heart is open and he has given it but been hurt several times by girls hence the words will be "written on his stone"
2 He spent all her love (she is now ready to move on or has had her fun/doesn't look at him like that.
3 Writing on the walls are colors he cant change, the writings on the wall and he knows it but cant stop how he feels
4 Running after you is like chasing the clouds = he wants and chases the girl but never gets her and its impossible
A really sad song, Ive been there !!

At first I actually had this feeling it was about Directioners. "The story of my life" is basically what has happened from X-Factor to now. "I take her home," as in Take Me Home. "I drive all night," as in Up All Night. "To keep her warm," 'her' is us, and 'to keep her warm' is to keep us happy. "And time is frozen," I can't figure that one out. "I give her hope," we all know the boys are our heroes and this could be for the girls who are struggling with things and rely on them and their music to make them feel better. "I spend her love, until she's broke inside," I can't figure this one out either.
Anyways, then I started to analyze the song more and I came to the conclusion that that last interpretation was wrong, so this is what I came up with:
There's a lot of people saying the song is about a guy who loves too much and the girl never ends up feeling the same, but I don't quite think that's it. I think it's about a guy who when he falls in love, he makes a lot of mistakes. "The story of my life, I take her home, I drive all night to keep her warm, and time is frozen" basically means that he wishes that specific moment would freeze so that he could be there forever and not have to make another mistake (if you catch my drift). "The story of my life, I give her hope, I spend her love until she's broke inside" means that she falls for him and trusts him but when he 'spends her love' -- which basically means that he wastes her love -- she's 'broke inside,' which means she's hurt.
I might be wrong, but yeah. That's what I came up with! -
i believe that they are not all singing about one relationship of 2 people... rather they are with their family in all pictures so how do you come about them singing about a relationship? When Harry says time is frozen and in all the pictures all of their family is frozen except them what d you predict that means? I can also say that songs are like paintings(i know its dramatic but just stick with me) when an artist paints or draws or whatever they have a specific meaning why or what they are referring to, but the person who sees the art may or may not know what it means, so interpreting into her/his own words he/she understands from her/his knowledge instead of the artist. For example in a song i heard someone wrote it about her ex husband and that she hopes he carries on life without her, but the singer thought of her kids when she heard this song so the video has her kids in it and what she thought of the song. So this song could mean many things depending on whos listening to it.
-
I think its like about its about boy that is trying to tell a girl who doesn't believe that much in love and is confused about being in a relationship with him about the story of his life which was full of love and warmth so that she knows he could treat her right because he has been loved and nurtured from the beginning but she keeps giving him the cold shoulder since she doesn't know what to do even though he is so in love with her and she keeps rejecting him
-
"I drive all night to keep her warm" symbolizes him putting in so much effort and trying so hard just to make her happy. "Time is frozen," if you think about it, relates back to the previous line. He's driving on, forever, but to no avail, because no matter how hard he tries to 'keep her warm,' she's still frozen.

I'm not really sure about what this song could be about.
One way is about a guy and girl.
But the other way is about their family. Saying how much they miss them and how much they wish to be with them. The music video cases this second one. But I'm pretty sure that it's about their family. It's basically the story if One Direction. -
This song is not about Zayn, Liam, Niall, Louis, nor Harry and their dating life. They didn't even write the song. Jamie Scott wrote the song. so, the top #1 rated interpretation of the song is wrong and stupid. I like one direction, but I would like them more if they wrote their own songs. So sad.

I was confused about this one.I think maybe it could be about them all singing, telling how much they miss there familys, when they say ' I take her home' it could be saying they're taking their mother back home. Also when it says 'Although I am broken, my heart is untamed still' It could be saying they're heart cannot be the same because they feel empty without their family. This is why they show a lot of family photos. But I think it also could be about a guy that loves a girl too much it broke the relationship, but they still love each other, this is why he drives her home and keeps her warm. My final interpretation is they are all taking about their lives, their experiences with their girlfriends.

I feel like this song is talking about how it is hard for them to date being famous and when they date they try to give the girl hope that it'll work and the relationships always fail so the "story of their life" is them always giving it all with a girl and every girl doesn't feel the same
-
"It seems to me what when I die these words will be written on my stone"
I don't believe this line is about suicide at all. What I think is that, based on the following lines, this same break-up has happened over and over to this guy, whether it be with the same girl or a different, and thus would be included in some sort of epitaph.
As listed above, 'story of my life' is a common metaphor used in everyday life. For example, if someone said "I spent all weekend doing homework." Then you might say "Story of my life," Which implies then that it's a common occurrence.
This leads me to believe that the whole song is about recurring relationship/relationship issues coming in a full circle (similar to Same Mistakes), and that it's hard for this person to find 'the One' because of this. -
I don't think the "It seems to me that when I die, these words will be written on my stone" does NOT mean he is committing suicide.
I think it means that this is "the story of his life." It's something that happens to him time and time again. Like when a friend says "I am just too tired to think," you might say "story of my life." So he thinks that everyone kind of associates this bad ending to a relationship with him. So when he dies, that legacy of bad break ups won't escape him. It will always be there haunting his past, and putting it on his tomb stone, that means it will be there with him forever. -
This is a reallly beautiful song in my opinion. It expreses a " LOVE " wich a guy has for a girl, and even though the girl doesnt accept it, he still struggles for the relationship that they once had. In the title (Story Of my Life) it is expressing something that often happens to a person, in this case the boy that wont give up his love for a really meaningful person in his life who simply wont accept his heart back:
Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain.- meaning that she keeps telling him things that are hurting the relationship but he just doesnt want to understand.
I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days.- wich is saying that he can leave his heart always there for her but she never sees it or even wants to.
She told me in the morning she don't feel the same about us in her bones.- it is a verse, really simple and self-explanitory where i talking to us about their "end" in the relationship that he doesnt want to let go of.
It seems to me that when I die these words will be written on my stone.- maybe he will be dsappearing or commit suicide with the thought of that she did not want him anymore.
Then in the chorus it talks about that alway happeming to him.
i hope you will understand that better now.

I think this song is about two people who were dating but broke up because one of the two doesn't feel the same anymore. However in the other persons eyes the circumstances haven't changed, that person still feels the same way and will still 'drive her home to keep her warm'. He likes her too much to stop and is aware of the fact that the circumstances can't be changed.
